PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research Associate, North Carolina State University Feb 2012 - Current
Create transgenic Drosophila to monitor dorsal gene expression in live embryos. This involved microinjections of Drosophila em-bryos, molecular cloning to create plasmids and imaging embryos cross sections. As part of this work I’m responsible for the train-ing and supervision of undergraduate research assistants.
Special Project, North Carolina State University May 2011 - Dec 2011
Studied the gene pattern formation in Drosophila embryos by quantitative experimental approaches. This involved RNA probe-making, in situ hybridization, confocal imaging, and computational modeling by Virtual Cell. Presented and led discussions of journal articles as a part of group meetings.
Graduation Project, Zhejiang University Nov 2009 - Jun 2010
Improved the original fermentation process to enhance the ALA(5-Aminolevulinic acid) productivity. This involved analyzing the population and component of the fermentation by spectrophotometer and HPLC, defining the kinetics of various enzymes involved and developing downstream process.
Process Design, Zhejiang University Feb 2009 - Jun 2009
Teamed with four classmates, designed a methanol manufactory (500kt/a) as the final project. Simulated and optimized the synthe-sis of methanol by ASPEN Plus, distributed departments in the manufactory, expressed by AutoCAD, selected equipments and pa-rameters, evaluated economical and environmental effects, and presented to the class.
11th SRTP(Student Research Training Program) Project, Zhejiang University Jul 2008 - May 2009
As leader of a three-person project team, synthesized PMMA and tested its mechanical properties including tensile strength, tough-ness, melting point, etc. Improved the student experiment about synthesizing PMMA as Teaching Assistants.
COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE
2012: Volunteer for Zhejiang University Alumni Association North Carolina Chapter Foundation
2011: Volunteer for Chinese Student Scholars Fellowship Association at NC State University
2011: Attended departmental “Recruiting Weekend”, persuaded selected applicants to join
2008: Leader of a 10-person summer research team, surveyed and reported the life of migrant workers in the city
