As a substitute teacher I have been teaching students ranging from 3rd-to-12th grade.
Instructional Assistant / July 2011 – August 2011
One-on-one Instuctional Assistant, ESY 4J School District, Eugene
I assisted a student with a developmental disability in the ESY summer school program. I worked with this student to develop his social and vocational skills.
Instructional Assistant / January 2011 – June 2011 One-on-one Instuctional Assistant, Sheldon High School, Eugene
I was hired to work one-on-one with an at-risk behavior 9th grade student at Sheldon High School. At this position I worked with the student on behavior modification at academics.
Substitute Teacher / October 2010 – January 2011
Licensed Substitute Teacher
I worked as a substitute teacher from the fall of 2010 through January of 2011. I worked in Springfield, Creswell, and South Lane school districts. I also worked in 4J school district as a substitute classified employee during this time.
Practicum Teaching / September 2009 – January 2010 Middle School Math Teacher / 5th Grade Teacher
As part of completing my Masters in Education I completed two practicum teaching placements. I taught in a Middle School and an Elementary School. During my Middle School placement, I taught half-time for three months in a Math classroom at Madison Middle School in Eugene, OR. My second placement was at an Elementary School. During my Elementary placement I taught a fifth grade class at Douglas Gardens in Springfield, OR. These two placements helped me to solidify my passion for education and helping children to find their own passions and aptitudes.
Graduate Student / August 2008 - January 2010 Pacific University, Eugene
After returning to Oregon from working in Seoul, South Korea, I began my graduate studies at Pacific University in Eugene. I completed the program and two practicum teaching positions in January of 2010.
Language Teaching / November 2006 - March 2008 English teacher
I taught English at a private language institute in Seoul, Korea from November of 2006 through March of 2008. This was an invaluable life experience that not only exposed me to the unique culture of Korea, but also provided me with my first full-time experience with-in education. During this position I taught 6- to 17-year-old students. While teaching I was constantly challenged to articulate my tacit knowledge of English in succinct patterns that students were able to remember and use. This experience directly led to my enrollment in a teacher education masters program once I returned to the States in March of 2008.
Graphic Designer / August 2002 - February 2004 Wipf & Stock Publishers
I worked as a book cover designer for Wipf & Stock Publishers in Eugene after completing my studies at Lane Community College. At this position I was responsible for designing and printing the covers for books. Wipf & Stock is an on-demand publisher and the timelines for design were truncated due to the rushed production schedule of on-demand publishing. I enjoyed the high energy and fast pace of this position.
