QA Tester

Description:

The Music Teachers Association of California is a professional organization with about 4700 private music teachers as its members spread across 60 different branches. The association holds music festivals in each of its branches throughout the year.

Music Festive Scheduler (MF Scheduler) is a web based application to help music teachers to organize the festivals like register students, assign music pieces to be performed by each student, schedule competitions, grade, and create certificate of merits.

Responsibilities:

• Defining test cases and scripts for the functional, navigational, and user interface testing as per requirements specification.

• LoadRunner was extensively used to generate VUser scripts to simulate multiple user interactions and to emulate the behavior of hundreds of users – stress testing.

• Reviewed test scripts, modified and performed manual testing where applicable in order to validate and verify the requirements.

• Tested the shopping cart functionality. Used SQL queries to extract data from database and perform requirements verification.

• Used HP Quality Center tool to record and report defects.

Returns Operations Control System Feb 10 – Oct 10

The parts are shipped to the warehouse in reusable plastic/metal containers, over 40,000 of them per day from over 300 suppliers located throughout the country and abroad. The challenge is to correctly identify and return the containers to the respective suppliers in a timely fashion so that the suppliers will have right containers at the right time and right place to ship the next round of parts – the cycle continues.

The Returns Operation Control System contains several algorithms that automatically figure out the inventory of containers that need to be returned to the suppliers based on the parts that they will have to ship in the near future, and generate pick tickets. I was extensively involved in validation testing of the pick tickets to ensure that the container pick quantities match with that of the suppliers’ requirement. Since there is no room for any bugs in this complex API the testing had to be thorough. The HP clear case was used to log the test results and bugs, shared with the developers and they have been used again to perform verification testing.

The system has several user interfaces that include screens on the hand-held computers to help users to load containers into trailers as per pick tickets, screens to maintain business rules and policies, and several transactional screens that are used by the clerks. The suppliers are informed about their shipments by a combination of email and web portal. Performed extensive testing of all the screens set in an AS400 environment and web portal.

Yard Management System (YMS) Mar 09 – Jan 10

Over 500 trailers carrying one or more supplier parts are arrived into the Honda trailer yard throughout the day. The Yard Management System is used to arrive, manage, and depart trailers. Some of the salient features of the system include: directing the trailers, after they are arrived at the guard, to their zones and dock doors based on the content of the trailers and parts requirement in the warehouse, generating trailer unload schedules, automatic generation of trailer-move messages to the drivers, etc.

The system provides several user interfaces to the different users like guards, drivers, and receiving users that may not be experienced in using the systems, besides algorithms that implement business rules, generate schedules to match the plant operations and automatically decide the trailers moves.

I was extensively involved in testing the user interfaces of the guards, drivers, and receiving clerks using Manual testing techniques, functionality, stress, and volume testing.

Due to the complexity of the business algorithms, we used manual testing techniques to ensure that the data generated is accurate and matches with the requirement. I was particularly involved in testing a module called dynamic dock allocation, which decides correct dock door to unload a trailer out of 100 plus doors, depending on the parts in the trailers and where they need to be put-away in the warehouse. The idea is to minimize the distance travelled by fork-lifts in the warehouse. Using manual verification techniques I was able to validate the logic against the requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Writing test cases for the functional, database, and user interface testing as per requirements and functional specifications.

• Performed extensive manual testing of the complex business algorithms.

• Used Soap UI tool to test the screens.

• Used HP Quality Center tool to record and report the software defects.

• Performed the manual testing of the software on the hand-held computers.

• Extensive use of SQL queries to test the database population by the algorithms.

• Coordinated with the development team including the project manager to report and reproduce the defects.

• Performed regression testing of the product through a release change.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce

• Certification in Webpage Designing and HTML
