MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST/MICROBIOLOGY
•
Objective:
Seeking a medical technologist position preferably in the microbiology department. Experience routine bacteriology anaerobic bacteriology parasitology virology mycobacteriology and mycology.
Career summary:
In January of 1987 I joined the microbiology team at the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center in Houston Texas. I was particularly interested in the principles and concepts of microbiology as a student and was fortunate enough to be trained by some of the best microbiologists in the country. I encountered many unusual isolates while working at this health care facility and was assigned to work in the special microbiology section of the lab. I found this challenging and interesting and have always enjoyed working in microbiology. In August 2001 I was promoted to the Administrative Officer of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Care Line. During this time I was able to provide administrative support for a complex care line and welcomed the challenge. In 2003 I had the desire to be self employed and owned a dollar store. While this was a successful business I still wanted to return to the laboratory setting. I then joined the microbiology department at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. While there I was offered another promotion to join a quality management team that performed quality assessments of lab processes with Six Sigma and LEAN principles. I then moved to Biloxi MS as worked as a generalist and the VA Health Care System. My spouse relocated to Albany New York where I worked in the Microbiology department and enhanced my molecular biology skills and well as refreshed my parasitology and virology skills. I am currently the Administrative Officer for the Diagnostic Service Line (Pathology and Laboratory Service and Imaging)at the VA Ambulatory Surgery Center in Harlingen Texas and desire to relocate to the Albany NY vicinity.
