In January 2011, I agreed to take on a 6 month freelance project for a startup company called African Currency Exchange. I completed the task in 3 months and my primary responsibilities included:

- Putting together a comprehensive business plan and trading strategy for ACEX.

- Putting together the company’s operating procedures and mechanics of trading.

- Incorporating the business as a GBC 1 in Mauritius.

- Setting up and negotiating dealing facilities for ACEX with various banks Mauritius.

In 2010, we launched an online advertising platform to help support UK and S.A retailers. Our aggregation website gives online shoppers instant access to a huge database of home décor suppliers and their products in one central location. The group generates revenue from the sale of advertising.

My Responsibilities Included:

- Full Project Management – responsible for delivering two fully bespoke advertising platforms.

- Full P&L responsibility for the group.

- Managing and monitoring the activities of the design team, development team and online sales team

- Establishing strong brand identities and a unique marketing concept for both companies

- Recruiting and training a new online sales team

- Compiling detailed competitor, market and industry related analysis reports to gauge our market position and identify any problematic barriers to entry

- Developing an aggressive sales & marketing strategy for the group to ensure that we remained on target to hit our 1, 2 and 3 year revenue projections.

- Working in close co-operation with the Sales Director to implement and oversee the sales process

- Establishing an aggressive online marketing and SEO campaign for the group

- Analysing & monitoring the groups operating costs and overall efficiency

- Reviewing & monitoring all budget expenditure

- Evaluating market responses & results (positive/negative)

Reason for leaving: We signed a license agreement with a 3rd party to take over both platforms. I was responsible for negotiating the terms of this agreement. I resigned from my position as MD to pursue new interests.

In 2005, I started a Foreign Exchange brokerage called FC Exchange. In under 5 years and in the middle of one of the worst economic periods in history, we went from 4 staff to over 40 and created a business with offices in 5 countries that turns over more than £350 million a year.

Major Achievements:

- Building and managing an extremely successful dealing team.

- In 2009 I restructured the company trading floor and introduced a number of new operating procedures designed to increase daily activity and overall productivity. Within 3 months, we increased the company profits from £225k to over £350K / month. FC Exchange have continued to produced similar results ever since.

- Establishing and training a successful senior management team.

- Building a network of affiliates which consists of over 1,500 international introducing brokers.

- I’ve recruited and trained over 100 top performing sales executives.

- I helped establish satellite offices in Cyprus, Portugal, South Africa and Dubai.

My Responsibilities Included:

- Compiling daily market analysis reports used to brief the dealing floor

- Recruiting & training new sales staff

- Managing the company trading floor

- Managing the day to day sales activities and introducing new commission structures and incentives

- Maintaining and increasing the companies’ monthly profits

- Tracking sales activity, monitoring conversion rates and assessing quality controls

- Overseeing all trades executed (approx. 5,500 trades a month)

- Managing the company’s exchange rate risk on forward contracts and sell back contracts

- Ensuring that up to 30 sales members hit their monthly targets

- Creating and managing the company’s sales process and sales strategy

- Ensuring that brokers operate according to the industry and FSA regulations.

- Ensuring that brokers abide by the company’s internal compliance and due diligence procedures

- Managing, maintaining and growing the companies affiliate network

- Developing new business relationships and negotiating new affiliate contracts

- Conducting regular management meetings

- Working in close co-operation with the Head of Operation’s and CFO to deliver key strategies aimed at growing the bottom line.

Reason for leaving: In February 2010, I sold some of my shares & resigned as the Dealing Director to pursue new interests. My wife and I returned to S.A to start a family.
