I’d like to introduce myself. My name is David Harvey and I am interested in applying for the position of Sr. Internal Communications Consultant. My résumé is attached, and references, writing samples and media clips are available upon request.
Advocacy and mass communication fascinate me. This first led to a career in law. I chose to leave the security of a large law firm job to come to San Francisco and try my analytical and creative skills in the field of communications, my je ne sais quoi.
I began at Ogilvy-FKH with a focus on media relations for large and small companies. Within six months, I received my first promotion. By the time I left, I had worked directly with the CEO on her vision to produce a digital media repository and managed seven-team members under the direction of a talented former senior vice president and current director of an MS&L practice group. Shortly after her departure, I joined FinemanPR to work mainly on new business development. This culminated in winning the first tech client in the 25-year history of the well-respected San Francisco-based agency.
The ultimate challenge for me involved going solo. It offered copious challenges as well as opportunities for career development and exploration. On my second pitch attempt, I landed my first client. With short deadlines and fast turnarounds ahead, I developed and executed an integrated advertising and PR campaign, forging many new relationships and applying skills rarely used in the agency setting. I also learned the importance of finding ways to get things done in the face of any obstacle or unrealized opportunity.
I’ve continually challenged myself to gain new robust experiences and refine core skills. This entrepreneurial spirit seems complementary to Sr. Internal Communications Consultant position. My strong work ethic, passion for communications and analytical and strategic mindset certainly match the responsibilities and skills for this position, and suggest a strong ability to contribute meaningfully to Vaco.
