PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Graduate Assistant, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI Fall 2007- April 2012

Responsible for deploying/maintaining/troubleshooting hardware infrastructure (server, workstation and CISCO devices), software implement and configuration for entire virtual training environment (VTE), and assisting senior students in completing their hands-on lab assignments or E-Firm projects from the training program of companies.

• Hands-On Lab: Guided and assisted students in deploying computer roles (servers and workstation) and LAN configuration in Windows installation (2003 Server and XP professional) and the administrative tools, and learning network security from NIDS.

• Information Security Lab: Implemented server roles deployment in Ubuntu Server system with Mail, FTP, SFTP and LAMP Server services and deployed BackTrack with OWASP using Virtual Box in the client Linux environment to meet the lab requirements.

• System/Networking Administration: Implemented and configured network infrastructure and security with CISCO devices (Layer 3 Switch, Router, ASA, and Switch), and the network administrator plays the role of Internet Service Provider, including the configuration of Routing Table, NAT, and Access Control List (ACL). Deployed and administered servers, including SharePoint Server, SQL Server, and Domain Controller.

RESEARCH & COURSE PROJECT

Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI

E-Firm Project

• A Web-Based Application Release: Designed a web-based application that improves the management of application release, used to maintain the consistency of the newly released application. MS SharePoint Designer with C# language is used to implement and deployed on SharePoint site in this project.

Research Project

• Digital Media Processor: Designed and built an MPEG Layer III (MP3) audio decoder as System-on-a-Chip hardware/software co-design techniques, based on an embedded microcontroller (Xilinx Vertex-5 FPGA chip) on the Xilinx XUPV5-LX110T evaluation platform. A MP3 files is decoded into 16-bit pulse code modulated (PCM) outputs and the stereo AC97 codec converts the digital PCM outputs into an analog sound wave by the MP3 decoder. C programming language is used to run on a Microblaze 32-bit processor and VHDL language performs drivers of external peripherals (AC97 codec and LED controller).

Course Project

• Microprocessor Design: Designed a bridge between the local bus of a powerful 32-bit Microprocessor and a VME_Bus, and SDRAM memory block along with its controller. The project was based upon VHDL programming and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) with CAD tools implemented by Xilinx ISE and Mentor Graphics (ModelSim).

• Fuzzy Logic Hardware Accelerator Module: Designed a segment of a fuzzy logic hardware accelerator module for a signal-input signal-output model, which supports both fuzzy model building and inference computations. The circuits were mapped to the Xilinx Vertex-5 FPGA chip by using VHDL along with Xilinx ISE platform and simulated with ModelSim verification environment.

• Ultrasonic Sensing System: Developed an ultrasonic sensing system using a microcontroller. A LCD displayer was used to display the distance which was measured by ultrasonic device. The C and assembly languages were used in this project to design, implement and debug the firmware. The hardware interfaces such as LCD display module and driving circuit was tested and debugged using a digital analyzer, oscilloscope and multimeter.

• CAN Communications: Established a message transfer system to/from other Evaluation Boards over a CAN communications port using a microcontroller. The C and assembly languages were used in this project to design, implement and debug the firmware. The circuit was tested and debugged by using a logic analyzer.

• Web Application Development: Developed an online bookstore using ASP.NET, supports Administrators to supervise business activity of the website and users to add their orders and manage the transactions. The MS SQL Server and C# programming language were used to design and implement the web application in this project.

LEADERSHIP

• Vice President of Taiwanese Student Association at Western Michigan University
