NEWPORT PRECISION, INC. (NPI), (A Hitachi Metals America Company) Newport, TN 1998–11/2009
NPI produced precision ground-high-speed steel vanes for automotive power steering pumps. The facility grossed annual sales of approximately $8M with 54 employees supplying components to Ford, GM, Honda and Nissan. The plant closed in 2009 due to an economic downturn in the automotive industry and all production lines were relocated to a Hitachi plant in Japan.
GENERAL MANAGER
Directed all aspects of strategic planning and execution to enhance profitability, productivity, and efficiency throughout NPI Operations, including P&L, Manufacturing, Finance, Human Resources, Inventory, Purchasing, and Supply Chain for domestic supplies and Japanese imports.
Coached, guided, and mentored 6 talented, action-oriented direct reports across Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, HR, and Accounting. Recognized by senior leadership as a major player on the management team, served as secretary to the Board of Directors, management representative for ISO9001/TS16949 program implementations, and provided strategic oversight for plant closure in 2009.

Becker Group Inc. was formally a leading automotive interior supplier in North America and Europe. Johnson Controls acquired the Becker Group in 1998.
PLANT MANAGER, Cottondale, AL (1996–1998)
Managed start up and all operational aspects of the distribution plant and customer relations, such as plant layout for product flow for JIT and Sequenced component items. Orchestrated plant activities to ensure total manufacturing objectives were accomplished in a safe, ethical and environmentally sound manner. Scope of responsibilities included managing shipping schedule from all Becker supply plants for 650 unique part numbers and outside suppliers.
Selected Achievements:
* Identified and implemented methods to enhance optimization of plant operations, establishing and maintaining a 99.7% on-time delivery rating for all products, including JIT and Sequenced products utilizing a visual staging system to reduce error-rate for outbound shipments.
* Slashed order processing time 40% through creation of an innovative computer labeling system designed to accommodate Mercedes Benz JIT/Sequence process.
* Instituted an effective customer liaison program, placing a Becker employee onsite at Mercedes to resolve concerns relating to Becker parts and installations.
* Spearheaded implementation of inventory control models and processes, and reduced inventory 20% after initial start up of an in-house release system to Becker Group supply plants.
