Graduate Research Assistant, Sept, 2007 – Present.
• Synthesized and characterized Coumarin and fluorescein derivatives for the optical and electrochemical detection of toxic environmental pollutants.
• Developed new colorimetric and fluorescent sensors for various metal ions including Cu2+ , Fe3+ , Zn2+ ,Pb2+ , Co2+, Ni2+ and Cr3+ .
• Developed new fluorescent sensors based on coumarin derivatives for nerve gas memics.
• Implemented analytical techniques including fluorescence spectroscopy, UV- Visible spectroscopy, electrochemical (impedance spectroscopy, cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry), FTIR, ion mobility mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to evaluate the effects of coumarin and fluorescein based molecules as potential sensors for toxic environmental pollutants.
• Photophysical characterization and analysis of a serious of coumarin and fluorescein fluorophores
• Synthesized nanoparticls functionalized with organic dyes for sensor application.
• Investigating the biochemical activity of some coumarin derivatives as anti-breast cancer agents
• Develops a device that can sense environmental toxins.
• Morphological examination of cancer cells apoptotic changes using fluorescence chromatin dye.
Laboratory Skills
• Proficient in time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and ultrafast leser spectroscopy.
• Experienced in electrochemistry work station, x-ray crystallography, UV-vis and non linear Spectroscopy
• In-depth knowledge of chemical synthesis
• Expertise in separation techniques including TLC, column chromatography, LC/MS, GC-MS and HPLC.
• Computer skills – MS word, Excel, Power point, Origin, and ChemDraw.
• Confident in writing scientific reports
• Able to train and manage other laboratory personnel
