CAREER SUMMARY
With over 30 years of experience as a writer and editor, I have served as the senior marketing copywriter for a major entertainment firm, managed the staff and budget of three nationally distributed magazines, and mentored and developed young creative talent in both art and editorial. This past year I have served as the ad hoc copywriter and marketing director for RDPCloud.com, a cloud computing startup targeted at small businesses.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
I collaborated with IT architects to create the website for RDPCloud.com, a cloud-computing firm that may revolutionize IT services for small to medium businesses.
As a travel writer, I composed the shore excursion copy for Cunard Line’s World Cruise Books covering the maiden voyages of Queen Mary II and Queen Victoria.
At Disney Channel, I collaborated with senior management to create positioning copy
and tags for all original Disney Channel programming.
As the editor of the MAGGIE Award-winning Disney Channel Magazine, I managed a creative staff of 10 and administered a multimillion-dollar-operating budget.
I had the good fortune to mentor three outstanding talents who have made important contributions at The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers and the US Navy.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Freelance Writer 2002 – Present
This year, I have written sales collateral, signage and website copy for RDPCloud LLC, a new tech startup, as well as pro bono work for Taproot. (Taproot provides “grants” of professional teams donating their time and work to non-profits in need of their services.) My clients other clients range from large corporations – Princess Cruises, Cunard Lines, The Walt Disney Company -- to small businesses including Varela Studios, a special-effects and events firm, Verbatum Marketing and Eye of the Day, a garden design firm.
Editorial Director, Creative Services, Disney Channel Jan. 2000 – 2001
As the chief in-house copywriter, I wrote positioning copy and marketing tags for all Disney Channel Original Films, Series and Specials. I also wrote copy for national and affiliate sales kits, including the collateral for the launch of Soap.Net and Toon Disney. My other area of responsibility was ensuring that Disney Channel’s marketing copy maintained a consistent message on air, on the web, and in print.
Editor, Disney Channel Magazine Sept. 1985 – Jan. 2000
In 1985, I joined the staff of Disney Channel Magazine as an associate editor who could assist with all phases of production. From 1989 to 2000, I served as editor. In addition to assigning, writing, and editing stories, I supervised the production of this MAGGIE award-winning magazine (controlled circulation 7.5 million) from lineup to blue line.
Editorial Director, Unique Publications 1982 – 1985
Initially I served as the editor of Kick Illustrated. I spent my last year-and-a-half as the company’s editorial director, editing Inside Kung-fu, the second leading martial arts title in the US, while overseeing two other magazines and selecting our book division.
