Chief accountant provides leadership to budget, accounting, purchasing and accounts payable staff. Ensures the financial integrity of all transactions; monitors and oversees the UW-L Financial Systems; formulates management reports; and develops and produces various financial reports and analyses. Interpret a wide variety of complex accounting policies, rules, and regulations.

Perform complex reconciliation’s of expenditures, revenues, and encumbrances between multiple systems.

Responsible for the Health Science Consortium financial records and supervising an accountant’s preparation of financial statements and fund raising accounting.

Prepare annual year-end financial statements required by UW System and the State of Wisconsin.

Development, preparation, analysis and monitoring of university-wide budgets

Develop, prepare and analyze budget data for the Chief Financial Officer, University Director of Business Services/Controller, Joint Planning & Budget Committee, University Budget Office, and Legislative Audit Bureau. DOA, etc.

Monitor compliance with operating & capital budget guidelines and revenue guidelines.

Provide financial control for the University’s $130 million budget to ensure the protection of scarce University resources.

Auxiliary Accounting

Manage auxiliary accounting including financial management advice and analysis of operations.

Meet quarterly with each auxiliary unit to go over their revenue, expenses, cash flow statements, projections and comparison of actual to what was budgeted.

Responsible for Debt Service regarding the Auxiliaries and Health Science Consortium.

Responsible for Interest Distribution to the Auxiliaries

Financial Management System Analysis

Analyze and design on-campus enterprise accounting systems and processes.

Develop on-line transaction processing systems for campus cost centers, such as copy center, graphics, campus stores, etc.

Coordinated project to use credit cards in the student accounts receivable system.

Provide advice about internal control issues to the Director

Training and Leadership

Train and give direction to Account Administrators regarding the use of the computerized accounting and budget screens.

Set-up and trained student staff in the operation of a financial record keeping system for the Racquet, a UW-La Crosse student newspaper.

Recommend development opportunities for Business Services staff to Director.

Payroll and Benefits Specialist University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

October 21, 1979 to June 22, 1998 Office of Human Resources

Senior payroll specialist providing leadership to two permanent payroll and benefits specialists, one student payroll intern, limited term employees, and student employees. Supervisory responsibilities included hiring, training, and evaluating employee performance. Payroll operations comprised of three different payroll and benefits processes within two integrated payroll/accounting systems (UW System and local technology infrastructures). This was a complex system in which I developed a team concept and initiated cross training of employee duties and responsibilities.
