PROJECTS/ACHIEVEMENTS
06/2010 – 08/2010 “Gd3+-Functionalized Silicon Quantum Dots for Multimodal Imaging”
• Fabricated a high quantum yield and near infrared emitting nanoconstruct containing 56 silicon quantum dots and 2500 gadolinium ions protected for optical and MRI imaging.
• Used techniques of bioconjugation, chelation, confocal imaging, and cell receptor targeting.
05/2010 – Present “T-Boc Protected Silicon for Photo Patterning Applications”
• Functionalized silicon quantum dots with butoxy protected groups that cleave off when irradiated with UV light and a catalyst.
• Used reaction techniques such as reflux, etching, FTIR.
09/2009 – 12/2009 “FRET Acceptor and Donor Properties of Silicon Quantum Dots”
• Demonstrated the first energy transfer between co-localized organic dyes and silicon quantum dots in a micelle for biosensing applications.
• Used of techniques such as flourescence lifetime analysis, surface functionalization, liquid phase separation, and colloidal encapsulation.
06/2009 – 08/2009 “Biocompatible Magnetofluorescent Probes: Luminescent Silicon Quantum Dots Coupled with Superparamagnetic Iron (III) Oxide” (published in ACS Nano)
• Created magnetic silicon quantum dots that could be guided into cells for enhanced efficiency in biological imaging applications.
• Used physicochemical characterization techniques dealing with pH, temperature, photoluminescence, and confocal imaging of particles in cancer cells.
01/2010 – 05/2010 “Polydispersity Reduction of Silicon Quantum Dots ”
• Performed full width half max reduction of silicon quantum dots emission using different methods including protein membrane separation, chromatography and centrifugation to make the more competitive with other quantum dots.
01/2007 – 06/2007 “Modification of PVA and PEEK in the Use of Fuel Cell”
• Synthesized and characterized PVA and PEEK with different functional group.
