WORK EXPERIENCE

Talley Defense Systems August 2001-September 2008

Lead Research Technician

Responsible for managing all analytical tests and material characterizations. Performed quality conformance tests such as ballistic burn rates of propellants, tensile strength and elongation of solid propellants and cured composite materials; coating strength of metal parts using salt chambers and environmental testing. Ensured polymer material behavior by conducting chemistry analysis of specialized hydroxyl and carboxyl terminated polybutadiene polymers, imine/isocynates analysis in novel curing agents, and acidic content/ester content of plasticizers. Tested purity of wetting agents by density and refractive index, analyzed raw materials for moisture content using Karl Fisher and weight loss methods. Performed tests to detect concentration of azide in office areas via indicator methods. Tested for presence of energetics in manufacturing work areas using differential scanning calorimeter and DOT hazard classification tests. Experienced with adhesion property tests of metallic labels using peel tests with Instron, conducted performance tests of adhesives and sealants using Rheometer. Devised and installed new methods/instruments such as helium gas Pycnometer, UV/Vis spectrophotometer, laser diffraction particle sizing in different dispersion liquids, Ion Specific Electrode of aqueous anions and cations. Developed high level proficiency skills in determining particle size and morphology on various materials. Performed environmental tests such as: perchlorate concentration, nitrate concentration, and heavy metals concentration. Wrote/updated technical reports and procedures on laboratory tests and research projects as well as new laboratory methods. Responsible for calibrating and maintaining advanced laboratory equipment.

Talley Defense Systems, Chemical Technician III

As a chemical technician, I developed extensive experience using laser diffraction particle sizing/optical particle sizing instruments on dry powder and colloidal suspensions. Determined morphology of metal powders and ground materials using BET surface area pore size analyzer. Utilized micrometers and calipers to measure thickness and width of tablets. Formulated new and existing products made of composite polymers and gels. Assisted in developing formulations by analyzing compositions of ingredients through differential scanning calorimeter methods. In addition, I also determined creep and stress using thermomechanical analyzer, decomposition temperature using a thermogravimetric analyzer, and subsequently classified materials per DOT hazard testing methods. Updated laboratory inventory on regular basis and served as a back up to the laboratory manager. Organized work area to 5S methods. Safely handled hazardous materials on a daily basis.

Talley Defense Systems, Chemical Technician

My initial duties included performing analytical tests of polymer materials utilizing MIL and ASTM specifications, writing procedures, and ordering chemical supplies through the procurement department.

Gould Electronics November 2000- July 2001

Chemical Analyst

Analyzed electrochemical baths for key constituents using AA, ICP, SEM, IC, pH, autotitrators, wet and chemistry titrations. Responsible for chemical additions to electroplating baths to achieve optimal operating conditions in a lean manufacturing environment. Calibrated inline instruments such as XRF analyzers, pH meter, spectrophotometers, and depth/volume meters. Applied ISO quality procedures while maintaining high production levels. Regularly briefed engineers on any abnormal operations and any corrective actions needed to achieve nominal chemistry’s. Conducted GMP tours of manufacturing floor for any compliance issues on a daily basis.

Coca-Cola March 2000-November 2000

QC Lab Technician

Statistically monitored production lines to Coca-Cola quality specification using brix analyzers for %syrup, HPLC for aspartame and caffeine, CO2 content using a specialized Coca Cola instrument, Torque strength of bottle caps using Instron; phosphate content using UV/Vis spectroscopy and some acid base titrations. Ensured water treatment operations with wet laboratory methods such as %chlorine, %free chlorine, and turbidity. Conducted GMP compliance tours of production areas for violations several times a day.

Dean Food May 1999-February 2000

QA Technician (Student at ASU)

Major duties were to monitor coffee creamer products for bacteria growth, homogenization process by butterfat colloidal size, Flash pasteurization temperature by temperature chart, cup seal integrity with vacuum conditioning, expiration coding, ensure general sanitation practices are being followed, and compliance to USDA’s guideline for grade A milk products. Ensured that flavored creamers were correctly mixed using CEM total solids analyzer. Conducted environmental testing of production floors for peroxide/ammonia concentration, mold growth, and listeria growth. Utilized bioluminescence and standard plate counts to test for microbiological growth in packaged creamer products. Tested raw materials for conformance to company’s quality standards.

ASU Chemistry/Biology Department May1998-May 2000

Laboratory Assistant (Student at ASU)

Assisted research scientist with conducting studies on instrument upgrades for various sample matrixes. Extensively utilized HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR, UV/Vis, and C-H-N Analyzer. Conducted all soil analysis preparation and testing of select forest soils. Utilized sieve analysis to separate different particle sized soils and extract organic materials such as roots. Analyzed soil samples on C-H-N analyzer and GC-MS.
