Operations and Innovation Director:

Achievements:

• Designed and Launch the first cocktail mix, becoming one of the top 10 products in the first year with 8% of the total sales.

Manufacturing Director: from 2003 to Oct. 2007

Responsible for the full operation of four manufacturing facilities. Most relevant areas of impact to P&L are customer service (from production to delivery) and COGS (cost of goods sold). Performance indicators include case-fill to customers, on-time & complete shipments, plant service level, lost time accidents, first pass good-quality, MAC (margin after conversion) & ROTA (return on total assets).

Achievements:

• Managed an operation with 56 different products and 175 SKUs, maintaining earnings above 15%.

• Lead the project development and construction of a 25,000 m2 site with 5 different production technologies intended to be the candy development and production hub for Masterfoods USA.

• Achieved a ROTA (return on total assets) of 39%, 3 times above what other similar sites have around the world.

• Lead the business merge with Mars, achieving new standards of Safety and Quality within two years of acquisition.

• Restructured the business operation reducing 35% of the SKUs, 50% of the assets, 65% of the associates; closing 3 sites after a sales crisis that started in 2003. There were no Union issues, minimal disturbance to customer service, market and brands. In 2006 regained a healthy P&L and a growth trend for the business.

• Implemented Lean Manufacturing introducing 5S, TPM, SMED and Kaizen functions reducing MCC/Ton (manufacturing conversion cost per ton) by 45%.

• Transferred functions of logistic services, Plastic Container manufacturing and Co-packing to 3PL with saving above 5% in COGS.

• Grew associate engagement scores from 2.9 to 3.7 (Gallup) in two years.

• Designed a Business Continuity Plan to prepare the company for catastrophes and Ecological sustainability.

Innovation and Operations Director: from 1999 to 2003

Responsible for R&D, QA, Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, Logistics and Warehouses of two candy-manufacturing plants with 2000 people and NSV of USD $45 M. Main activities embraced new product design and implementation, value stream planning and execution, efficiency improvement and production cost control. Also responsible for the Human Resource department.

Achievements:

• Sustained a business growth rate between 56 and 100% per year for 8 years in a row.

• Developed and launched 3-4 new products every year with a 90% success rate.

• Designed, implemented and produced 9 new hard-candy and starch products to become 50% of business sales in 5 years.

• Designed, constructed and started a 9,000 m2 site focused on production of starch-lace candy Skwinkles®, finishing the project on time (9 months) and on budget (USD$9M).

• Developed a plant recognized by Mars for its high efficiency and low investment, having a ROTA of 39%.

• Implemented a flexible manufacturing system able to adapt to market cycle fluctuations of 70% of total sales volume while maintaining plant service level above 90%.

• Lead the implementation of SAP in 12 weeks (ASAP), achieving 60% of critical metrics controlled by the system from start-up.

New Business Manager: from 1997 to 1999

Responsible for the creation of new business opportunities for the company. Main activities included process design, technology development (or acquisition), capital projects management and operation startup.

Achievements:

• Designed, installed and managed the start-up of the hard candy technology for the business, delivering the project on-time and on-budget.

• Developed and implemented deposited-hard-candy technology not existent in Latin America. This technology has delivered the most important sales growth and profits for the business from 1998 to 2007, and still today it has NO competitors in Latin America.

• Developed and started the first starch-lace-candy line in Latin America. This technology gave birth to the Skwinkles® brand, one of the top 3 brands in Mexico’s snack-food market only 3 years after launch.

• Designed the first chili-sanded starch-lace-product in the world and the process to manufacture it, providing a unique competitive advantage to the product. This resulted in 150% sales growth in 1999 and 2000 with the Skwinkles® brand.

Plant Manager: from 1993 to 1997

Coordinate Production, Maintenance, R&D, QA, Purchasing and Storage of one candy plant to achieve a 99.5% service level.

Achievements:

• Created successful products such as Limon Lucas®, Bomvaso® and Gusano® under the LUCAS® umbrella achieving 35% share of total sales in 1995.

• Designed and implemented the first Quality Assurance System in the business, reducing defects by 50%.

• Introduced the Vendor Assurance function and developed strategic suppliers to comply with FDA standards, becoming the largest candy exporter in Mexico (USD$30M in sales in the US by year 2000).

• Managed exponential production growth from 50 to 600 cases per day in 2 years.
