EXPERIENCE

WORLD COLOR / QUEBECOR WORLD, Oberlin, OH 1982 to 2010 (Pending plant closure)

A 120+ employees, 7/24 production division of the international commercial printing company - This division specializes in short-run, full-color, direct-mail advertising inserts for high profile Travel, Entertainment, Retail and Advertising / Promotional customers. This division is being consolidated into larger World Color divisions.

Manager – Production 1995 to 2010

 Lead, train, motivate, schedule and direct a shift of 40+ employees separated into teams of 5 to 8 employees operating high-speed, high-volume, offset web presses.

 Accountable for safety, quality, efficiency and production including training and development.

 Ensure effective two-way communications.

 Assign crews, balance skill-levels and team compatibility plus evaluate labor costing (CPU: Cost/Unit) and manage consumables/inventory to adhere to very tight budgets.

 Continuously monitor materials-flow, set-ups, progress, quality and scheduling plus maintenance.

 Provide direct customer interface on press color approvals and offer technical assistance.

 Communicate, support and adhere to highly detailed Quality Standards as specified for each customer and adjust to the variations in highly detailed color standards and requirements that each customer expects and demands achieving consistency throughout the entire production run.

 Apply 5S Lean and Six Sigma principles of organization and standardization and adhere to ISO9000 standards.

 Administer Preventative Maintenance Programs plus troubleshoot and lead repairs.

 Evaluate job duties and motions to both improve efficiency and reduce/eliminate/prevent traumatic and repetitive injuries.

 Provide leadership and direction for pre-press, maintenance and shipping departments throughout the shift to maintain efficient production with minimal downtime and to ensure critical shipping deadlines are met.

 Active member of the safety committee and hold a First Responder and CPR certification.

Manager - Quality 1990 to 1995

 Lead, train and direct a team of Quality Inspectors and continuously monitor quality throughout the entire production and distribution process.

 Foster continuous process improvement to eliminate waste and improve efficiencies.

 Monitor overall product quality including the pre-press, printing, and finishing processes and provide technical expertise to achieve the standards that each customer and advertiser seeks.

 Troubleshoot and recommend equipment, process and quality improvements plus monitor color variation, registration, crossovers, bleeds, plus review "Color OK's".

 Work with ink suppliers and paper mill reps with material problems to quickly resolve problems.

 Assist customers on site with samples, approvals, "Color OK's" and final product approvals.

Team Leader - Pre-Press Technician 1985 to 1990

 Key leader and member of a customer-focused team assigned to review, prepare and edit and coordinate workflow from customer service all the way through plate making.

 Assist in managing the work-flow and adjusting on-the-fly due to last-minute customer requests plus print-production and unexpected delivery delays.

 Produce highly detailed Color Proofs for color matching during the printing production run.

 Identify discrepancies and work closely with customers, sales & customer service rep.’s and press & bindery operators to provide technical support and recommend solutions to problems.

 Establish priorities, monitor job-production flow and respond to last-minute customer-requests.

 Continuously learn, apply and adapt to new technologies in this rapidly changing, advertising, marketing and media business.
