Selected Achievements
I made $35 million worth of improvements to a building to reuse in another application. This project involved demolition of old workspace and updating services to improve the process of keeping the tools supplied with test materials. I met the goal by engineering the new equipment to fit the space. This type of project had not been completed on this scale before. My recipe for success: getting everyone to focus on the end result. The facility returned the cost of construction within 3 months.
I was challenged to design and build a portable clean room that was adaptable, easy to set up, functional, and lightweight. I achieved this goal by improving on the concept of the one we had. The portable clean room I designed and built exceeded expectations. Over the course of time, we rented it several times and it returned $25,000 over the cost of materials.
The construction of a school on the Navajo reservation presented unique challenges: communication, location, weather, and workforce. But the goal was an important one – to improve the chance for local children to achieve higher goals. By learning to respect the culture and local customs, and extra focus on training and working with the local people, the building was completed on time and on budget.
The project at Glencroft was a challenging one from start to finish. The goal was to improve living conditions for senior citizens by making modifications to their current living environment with a minimum of disruption. Communication was key. I forecasted for them what we were going to do, explained to them what we were doing as we worked, and then showed them what we had done. A job I had initially faced with apprehension turned out to be very enjoyable with several of us being “adopted” by some of the senior residents in the process. Other challenges resulted from existing conditions which were not the same as the drawings. By continuous consultations with the owner, I was able to resolve these issues. In the end, the workmanship and goodwill toward our company were praised as our main achievements.
