Pall Corporation, Cortland, NY. Pall is a global leader in fluid separations and filtration products.
8/2006 – 2/2012
Director of Technology, Systems Development
Created a new group within Research and Development to develop and standardize filtration system designs for all Lines of Business within Pall Corporation Industrial Division, including Municipal Water, Petrochemical, Power Generation, and General Industrial. A particular focus was placed on water filtration systems, including ultrafiltration/microfiltration, crossflow filtration, and reverse osmosis.
* Worked closely with customers, LOB leaders, and senior R&D and Operations management to create new systems products and transfer to manufacturing
* Led a growing group (up to 18 direct reports) of engineers, programmers, and designers to develop these products
* Took the lead in guiding multiple projects through the Stage Gate development process
* Managed the R&D Portfolio for the Water Filtration Line of Business
* Mentored inexperienced staff in new engineering disciplines
* Coordinated cross-discipline engineering efforts
Accomplishments of this group included the development of:
* New design for the flagship water microfiltration system that will reduce costs and increase profits by at least $3 Million per year for the next 5-10 years
* New design for mid-market water filtration systems in order to increase market share in the 3-10 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) range by standardizing designs, reducing engineering and Field Service labor by 30%, and cutting installation time and costs by up to 50%
* Low-cost, automated, small (5-20 GPM), packaged water filtration system for third world applications
* Solar powered nanofiltration system for fluoride reduction from groundwater
* Containerized, integrated MF/RO systems for emergency relief water supply
* Multistage Crossflow filtration systems for biofuel development applications
* Large (10-30 MGD) systems for offshore platforms to microfilter seawater for injection
* Filtration systems designs for condensate polishing in power plants that cut costs by 30% over the previous design
8/1999 – 8/2006
Manager (1999 – 2003) / Vice President (2003 – 2006), Water Systems Engineering.
Supervised engineers and other staff in the design and production of water microfiltration systems.
* Managed a rapidly growing group that increased shipments of large capital projects from $250K to $30M yearly shipments in six years
* Grew global markets for Pall’s water filtration business
* Developed Pall’s standard designs for large and packaged systems
* Design Authority for the Municipal Water systems business unit
* Supervised, mentored, and developed up to 50 direct and indirect reporting personnel
* Served as the primary engineering contact with Sales, customers, and Manufacturing
* Provided technical support for Sales, presenting Pall’s technology to potential customers
* Directed troubleshooting efforts for difficult process situations and system startups
