Research/Activities

Research

Throughout my three years at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, I was given the opportunity to participate and tech on a variety of research projects that were being conducted through Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. Research project that I was involved in, I completed task such as covey call counts, deer/fawn captures, wetland invertebrate sample sorting, walking line transects, aerial nest counts for bobwhite quail, vegetation sampling, GIS mapping, necropsies on foxes and coyotes, spotlight surveys on deer, hogs and javelina and drying and organizing plant specimens. Other extended research projects included working for Dr. Michael Tewes analyzing felid research, tasks for this job included data sorting, developing and preparing posters and presentations for conferences, reviewing literature & mapping transects. During my senior year I was given the opportunity to volunteer on two graduate research projects the first was looking over preference of food for bobwhite quail and analyzing the nutritional content of the food samples they were given. The other project was on camera sensing techniques on captive/known populations of white-tailed deer.

Sophomore Research Project: “Effects of Temperature and Rainfall on the Supplemental Feeding Consumption of White-tailed Deer in South Texas.” This project was used to better understand how weather plays a role in the supplemental feeding habits of white-tailed deer. Supervisor: Dr. David Hewitt

• Participated in a month long GIS training where 20 students traveled from South Texas to Glacier National Park, MT: May 2007 – June 2007.
