COLLEGIATE WORK Manual Pencil Sharpener
Manual pencil sharpener was reverse engineered using Pro/E. Failure analysis and wear analysis was carried out on parts most likely to fail such as gears and crankshaft.
Fluid Piping System Design
Piping system responsible for transporting Carbon Dioxide; designed using pump that was previously tested in laboratory. Piping material was chosen based on cost effectiveness as well as safety. Fluid mechanics analysis performed included pressure drops, laminar vs. turbulent flow, head loss, etc.
Heat Exchanger Design
The intent of the design was primarily based on efficiency. Efficiency was based on maximum heat transfer, coefficient of performance, and energy efficiency ratio.
Reverse Engineering Retractable Pen
Retractable pen was modeled using SolidWorks software with part drawings containing tolerances and closure equations. Materials of each part were identified using burning tests, density tests, and other methods.
12 Volt Air Compressor
Initially, the air compressor was reverse engineered using Solidworks. Failure analysis was performed on parts most likely to fail. Temperature was measured using thermocouples; recorded data was used in heat transfer analysis. Fins were added to piston head as well as addition of cooling vents to reduce amount of built up heat within device.
