Established an HR Department for a clinical laboratory with over 240 employees. Wrote the employee handbook; established recruiting and hiring guidelines; set up the database for an Affirmative Action Plan; and provide assistance and counseling regarding all HR-related matters for more than 20 locations in Florida, South Carolina and Virginia. Human Resources Manager – October 1997 to April 2008

Hired as an HR Specialist to keep the company union-free then promoted to HR Manager as a key member of the management team that made FLA Orthopedics a leader in the industry. Worked as a partner with the Executive Team, Department Managers, and the 300+ employees of a manufacturer and distributor of orthopedic and safety products. Responsibilities covered all HR matters as well as benefits for facilities located in many states. This included acquiring talent, coaching managers, counseling employees, managing the employee benefit plans, investigating claims, providing advice, and making recommendations keeping within corporate guidelines and legal compliance.

Implemented various programs to improve the employee selection process by establishing pre-employment selection procedures; increased retention with an improved compensation and benefits package; set up a training program in partnership with the local school board to improve the skills of employees; worked with senior managers to mentor talented employees as part of succession planning; provided a safer work environment through employee involvement in safety matters; and developed and implemented company policies and strategies to achieve compliance with all pertinent local, state, and federal labor laws and regulations.

FLA Orthopedics was acquired by BSN Medical (Germany) and moved to Mexico.

SECURITY PLASTICS, INC.

Personnel Supervisor – November 1989 to January 1992

Administered the employment, employee relations, benefits, training and safety functions for a manufacturer of plastic component parts for all industries with 475 employees and five locations (Miami Lakes, Hialeah and St. Petersburg, FL; San Juan, Puerto Rico (unionized) and Brownsville, TX) in accordance with the corporate policies and in compliance with all local, state and federal employment laws.

Implemented a formal training program to allow for more opportunities for employees to move beyond the position they were hired into and increase the company’s retention of high-caliber employees.

Regional Personnel Coordinator/Supervisor – December 1987 to July 1989

Coordinated local recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, training and payroll functions for the offices in Miami, FL; Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX of a Swiss-based inspection company that serviced Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean. Coordinated contracts and compensation for employees from other countries. Traveled within assigned regions to handle internal human resources audits and traveled to the USA headquarters in NY to discuss my findings.
