Product Design Engineer Intern

Designed and developed intra-medullary nailing systems including implants and instruments. Played a significant role in the entire development process including; modeling, prototyping, testing, and report writing for this midsized medical device company.

• Created new innovative designs for implants and instruments using both Autodesk Inventor and Pro/Engineer.

• Made significant contributions to the redesign for hexalobe screws and drivers to ensure stick-fit while maintaining function and a significant tolerance range for ease of manufacture.

• Worked with Engineers and surgeons in cadaver labs in order to make design decisions and document procedures.

• Experimenter on several products which were released in the fourth quarter.

• Author of several test reports and validation reports on currently available products.

• Researcher for the product development team. Contributing to discussions of new products and markets which the company should add to their product line.

Developed processes which streamlined the quality assurance department and improved response times. Worked as the only quality assurance representative for this multi-million dollar chemical distribution company. Developed algorithms for reducing credit risk.

• Worked with customers, suppliers, as well as the distribution force to ensure all shipments were properly documented and up to standard.

• Implemented a plan for software development and process automation in order to decrease the work load by approximately 75%

• Created algorithms which decreased the credit risk of the company by 6 million dollars in one day.

• Created high level presentations regarding the financial risk of the company which were presented to the president as well as the executive team.

Design Engineer (2011-2012)

Oversaw all design decisions, team meetings, project grant requests, presentations, and testing. Primary modeler of a new design of a femoral component for a total knee arthroplasty. Led a team of three additional mechanical engineers.

• Researcher of clinical issues, proven designs, new processes for total knee arthroplasty.

• Held meetings with patients and surgeons about current issues and needs.

• Used Pro/Engineer to create a 3-D model of the device

• Communicated with vendors to collaborate in the manufacturing of this device.
