Project Experience:
Poultry Waste Water Treatment Improvement Project, Sara Lee Foods, Storm Lake, IA: Implemented Project Controls, including CPM scheduling, material procurement management, project documentation and reporting for $1.5 million renovations and additions to a Poultry Waste Water Treatment facility. Reviewed and monitored job progress periodically and reported to executive management. Work included drilling and pouring 44 caissons for the erection of a Stainless Steel Equalization tank; installation of two new Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) units; installation of a new aeration system, including stainless steel piping, blowers and diffusers; new Motor Control Center along with required conduit and wiring; installation of overhead and underground fiber reinforced plastic ductwork and demolition and removal of the existing Waste Water Treatment components, including the existing DAFs and associated piping. Documented contractor’s progress through diaries and photos and facilitated the negotiation and implementation of change orders and engineering proposals. Mountaire Farms of Delaware - Resource Recovery Project, Millsboro, DE:Project Engineer for $4.5 million project for new construction of a 70,000 sq. ft. Poultry waste water treatment facility. Scope of work included site improvement; installation of underground site utilities; excavation and grading; erection of precast panels; form and pour Cast-in-Place concrete members; electrical conduits and mechanical piping. Prepared Master CPM Schedule for the project; periodically updated the CPM schedule; documented the project progress through diaries and photos; facilitated negotiations and implementation of change orders and engineering proposals; provided construction supervision and reported to the executive management. Also coordinated and tracked review and response to correspondence and submittals, reviewed plans, specifications and the owner’s requests for proposal for additional contract work and facilitated the negotiations of change orders and value engineering proposals.
Poultry Waste Water Treatment Improvement Project, Mountaire Farms of Delmarva, Selbyville, DE: Served as project engineer for prime contractor to expand and upgrade an existing poultry wastewater treatment plant. Fast-tracked $2.5 million project, completed on time and under budget. Work included installation of two stainless steel Moving Bed Biological Reactor (MBBR) tanks; installation of a new Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit; installation of a new aeration system, including stainless steel piping, blowers and diffusers; new Motor Control Center along with required conduit and wiring; installation of overhead and underground fiber reinforced plastic ductwork and installation of a new odor control system. All areas had to be maintained operational through construction. Implemented Project Controls including CPM Scheduling, material procurement management, project documentation and reported to executive management. Professional services included progress super-vision, reporting, coordination, change order review, and payment application review.
Poultry Waste Water Treatment Improvement Project, Mountaire Farms of North Carolina, Lumber Bridge, NC: Project Engineer for $1.8 million fast track, design build project to upgrade an existing poultry waste water treatment facility. Work included Installation of new 2,400 GPM Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit, new DAF feed pumps, new chemical storage and feed equipment, new solids conveyance equipment, building addition, appurtenances and miscellaneous work. Oversaw development and design of contract plans and specifications, bid packages, contract award and development of a master schedule for the project from design through construction.
Lead Engineer, The Peck Group, PLLC, Greensboro, NC (12/2008 –09/2010)
Project Experience:
Greek Village Student Housing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC: Provided management consulting, investigation and technical analysis on behalf of General Contractor related to the construction of an $18-million student housing project. Reviewed project documentation of all the parties involved; analyzed actual performance of the parties with regard to construction to analyze changes, delays, impact, acceleration and the causation and liability associated with delays. Visited the project, reviewed and examined the facts and circumstances of the project through documentation. Prepared detailed as-built schedule based on daily reports. Assisted in the preparation of expert reports, including As-Built vs. As-Planned CPM analysis related to the contractor’s $4- million claim.
Tulkoff Production Facility Project, Baltimore City, MD: On behalf of design-build contractor, assisted in analysis of delay and other issues related to Owner’s claims for failure to perform related to $22-million project, designed and built as a food manufacturing, warehouse and a distribution centre. Key issues included determination of “Substantial Completion” under the Contract, allegations of defective workmanship with roofing and floor coatings defects, and defective design of process equipment, piping and controls, and HVAC. Reviewed project documentation and analyzed the performance of the contractor with respect to contract provisions.
30 MGD Expansion & Upgrade T.Z. Osborne Waste Water Treatment Plant, Greensboro, North Carolina: On behalf of the Engineer, analyzed contractor’s claims for delays and wrongful termination related to $29.7-million multi-phased expansion of existing wastewater treatment plant from 20 MGD to 30 MGD. Work included 3 new mechanical bar screens, upgrade existing influent pumps including variable frequency drives, twp stirred-vortex grit tanks, one primary settling tank, construction of eight new and rework of four existing aeration tanks, two final settling tanks, and a new return activated sludge pumping station, sodium hypochlorite and sodium bisulfate storage and feed systems for plant disinfection, upgrade and expansion of aeration blowers, instrumentation, distributed control system, odor control facilities expansion and upgrade, aeration equipment, mixers, miscellaneous plumbing fixtures, piping and distribution channels, tank age and related facilities, HVAC modifications, electrical and plant controls instrumentation and upgrade. Analyzed rebuttal reports, contractor supplement reports and prepared expert rebuttal reports, aiding in the settlement of disputes between all the parties.
Center Pointe, Greensboro, NC: On behalf of the lender, assisted with draw request inspections for a $30 million high-rise renovation project. Project called for renovation of existing office building into a mixed use development, including luxury condominiums, retail spaces and a penthouse. Work included 100% removal of building exterior and demolition of all interior partitions, ceilings, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Reviewed and documented construction progress, evaluated value of work in place and prepared written reports on a monthly basis.
Hassell Health Technologies Center - Guilford Technical Community College, Jamestown, NC: Project Scheduler for $13-million project to construct a 3-story, 73,000 sf health technologies educational facility and central energy plant. Prepared and maintained cost and resource-loaded CPM Schedules for the project using Primavera P3. Reviewed the work in place on a bi-weekly basis and prepared schedule updates, Look-Ahead and status reports. Prepared Impact Schedules for change orders, analyzed delay impacts and made recommendations to the Architect and Owner regarding time extensions
