Senior Project / Mechanical Specialist on the Leismer SAGD commercial project. This is a 10,000 bpd (expandable to 20,000 bpd) grassroots facility, located in Northern Alberta. Later was assigned as Field Project Engineer and involved with all aspects of field construction, including module designs and installation of all the mechanical equipment – steam generators and supporting process equipment.
Responsibilities included:

These units had been previously used for peaking load units, and were in reasonable shape, but did require detailed inspection and subsequent repairs before being purchased. These units were eventually shipped to Kazakhstan, there to be used for primary power. I was then responsible for field installation and commissioning of those units.

Each train consists of a natural gas fired combustion gas turbine generator; by pass stack, and a heat recovery system. Senior Rotating/Project Engineer on the ARCO Alaska Alpine Project. This is a grass roots 90,000 bbl/day crude oil dehydration and gas reinjection facility located in the Colville river delta on the North Slope of Alaska, and the first of its kind to be designed with no redundancy on its compressor trains and power generation packages. The goal was to optimize the rotating equipment design with minimum costs to the project. Total cost of compressors and 105,000 HP gas turbine drivers, plus 55,0000 HP worth of power generation was US $27 million.
I was solely responsible for the following:
Preparation of detailed specification for gas turbines, large compressor pumps, power generators and all auxiliaries.

Nitrogen Fertilizer Complex
Senior Rotating/Project Engineer at the Saskferco Nitrogen Fertilizer Complex in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, which includes the largest single train urea plant in the world (2,000 MTPD), as well as 1,500 tonne per day Ammonia Plant. The equipment ranged in size from 22, 000 KW steam turbines and large centrigugal compressor trains, to 300,000 m3 / hour axial fans, plus all types of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and their drivers, etc. I was solely responsible for diagnosing problem equipment. During plant startup and commissioning, I developed action plans and interfaced with vendors, contractors, and Saskferco operating and maintenance personnel, including the development of Saskferco company engineering standards.

Involved in a large detailed optimization engineering study involving 13 large Pratt/Whitney FT4 gas turbines for mechanical drive of large compressor trains with a total HP of over half a million. Part of the study was to supply a new fuel management system for the gas turbines, plus state-of-the-art on the line and off line condition monitoring of the complete compressor train(s), including gearboxes and power turbines, etc.

Lobo Plan “B” Addition Project
Responsible for assisting in the development of a quality control program which included witness and hold points for inspection on the gas turbine packages. Project involved the addition of a Rolls Royce RB211 gas generator driving a Coberra 6462 power turbine and Cooper Rolls RF BB-42 38,000 HP centrifugal compressor. The new unit was designed to carry the base load of the station with the existing compressors carrying the intermittent loads.

Senior Rotating Equipment Specialist for the Judy Creek Gas Plant Expansions. Was involved in all aspects of engineering, testing and inspection working with the field personnel to design the best possible compressor systems. These included three 3500HP Dresser Rand and two 1150 HP Cooper electric driven reciprocating compressors, and two 5,000 HP York centrifugal compressors for a total of 7 compressors, increasing HP at site by 22,500. total price of equipment was $8 million.

Worked on two major engineering studies of which included a large variety of equipment. I.e. 40-50 MW steam turbine generator sets, centrifugal and slow speed reciprocating compressors, electric motor and gas turbine applications. This work involved detailed engineering and selection of equipment.

Senior mechanical engineer specializing in rotating equipment. Responsible for the 12,500 HP (CBF type) centrifugal compressor from Ingersol Rand using gas seals and single piece diaphragms. This was the first application of this type for Chevron in North America.
Methanol Plant Experience
Senior Mechanical/Commodity Engineer responsible for four major compressor trains and their steam turbine drivers for use in two large methanol plants (total value of compressors and their drivers - $15 million).
1. The first being located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, for Alberta Gas Chemicals Ltd. After successful plant startup, was involved in mechanical/performance tests to ensure they met specifications and customer requirements.
2. The second compressor trains are located in Waitars, New Zealand, for Petralgas Chemical Ltd. Duties were to follow the project from the first mechanical data sheet to plant startup. A brief description of responsibilities as Mechanical/Commodity Engineer are as follows:
Preparation of specification and data sheets.
Preparation of request for quotation packages.
Vendor bid conditioning meetings.
A detailed technical and commercial bid analysis.
