Qualifications

Hematology: Running and resulting CBC's on peripheral blood and body fluids. Performing differentials on peripheral smears and body fluids. Making, staining and reading malaria smears polysmears and eosmears. Identifying various cells, microorganisms and crystals. Assisting pathologists and other physicians with bone marrow biopsies. Making, staining and cover slipping touch prep and smears from bone marrow biopsies. Running calibrations and controls on instruments and ensuring that they are in within range according to manufacturer specifications. Maintaining instruments daily and doing weekly and monthly maintainance as well: Sedimat 15,and bright field microscopes with oil objectives.

Coagulation: Running and resulting tests such as PT, PTT, mixing studies, Fibrinogen, D-Dimer, Heparin Xa, platelet function assays, platelet antibody studies, platelet Heparin AB screens. Running calibrations and controls and maintaining instruments such as Siemens STAR and Compact.

Urinalysis: Running and resulting tests such as UA with microscopic exam, SSA, Ictotest, Clinitest, Manual Specific Gravity, Urine and Serum Osmolality and Wet Preps/KOH. Running calibrations and controls and maintaining instruments such as the Clinitech, Refractometer, Osmometer and phase microscope and polarizing microscope.

Chemistry: Running and resulting test on serum, whole blood, urine and body fluids such as basic chemistry panels (i.e. CMP, Lipid, Hepatic), Hgb A1C (manual and automated), Tox Screens(i.e. Benzos, Opiates, THC), ABG, Harmones(i.e.Prolactin, Qualitative HCG), Thyroid panels, tumor markers, Hepatitis and HIV testing, Cardiac markers. Running calibrations and controls and maintaining instruments such as the Beckman Coulters, Siemens Dimensions and Siemens Centaurs.

Microbiology/Serology: Running and resulting test such as C-Diff, RSV, Flu A&B, Gram staining and reviewing CSF,Rapid strep,Quantitative HCG and monospots, Chlamydia testing, RPRs, hemoccult and gastroccult testing. Streaking plates for various sites.

Blood Bank: Perform ABO Rh typing, antibody screens, antibody ID panels, IS and gel crossmatches, fetal screens, cord blood testing and DATs. Cross matches on whole blood and cord blood, distributing blood for transfusions. Worked in one of the first hospitals in South Carolina to use the gel method. I was the senior tech on my shift, and the senior techs were the only ones to work in Blood Bank. As a lead tech at Carolinas Medical Center, I maintained the Blood Bank department, which also used the gel method. I feel I am very strong in Blood Bank. I have also used the automated machines that do large volumes of the gel method. Dealt with complicated patients such as cold agglutins and sickle cell patients. Blood Bank is very interesting and I enjoy learning different things about this department.

Other qualifications: Maintaining calibrations and controls and correlations for POC in the ER, floors, OR and EP Labs. POC equipment includes I-Stat, Bio-Rad Triage Meter and Clinitech. Distributing, running and reporting online CAP surveys. Excellent phlebotomy experience including infant, child, adult and geriatric patients. Experience with computer programs such as Meditech. Data entry, ordering tests, verifying results and documenting critical calls.
