Consultant to a number of businesses on labor relations and employee development/discipline issues. Representative in discrimination and wrongful discharge cases. Also, advocate at unemployment hearings, helping employers lower their unemployment tax rate. Cases include:

• Hospitals and other Medical Care Providers (HIPAA violations, failure to follow proper patient care standards, and failure to follow Federal research guidelines). Representing 10 hospitals in Massachusetts, and averaging three labor hearings each week.

• Retail (employee theft, FMLA, benefits, time and attendance, insubordination).

• Manufacturing (failure to return from leave, failure to follow safety policies, interpersonal disputes).

• High-Tech (confidentiality agreements, poor performance).

HR Generalist, EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA 2000-December, 2010

Responsible for managing a variety of diverse projects and processes to drive cost savings, increase outreach to talent, and efficiency.

• Partnered with a number of large business groups (each with over 1,000 employees), such as manufacturing, sales, services, and engineering.

• Participated in mergers and acquisition team to ensure over 50 business purchased by EMC were integrated quickly and effectively. Work included: compliance, HR systems, benefits, and recruiting.

• Worked with compensation team to ensure pay equity (on basis of equal opportunity standards and competitor analysis).

• Handled new hire benefit and compensation questions, and surveyed them to ensure they were satisfied with coverage and communication with providers.

• Assisted recruiting team with following functions: resume screening, selection of candidates for hiring manager review, and assembly of metrics to determine the best sourcing strategies.

• Performed sexual harassment and equal opportunity training for over 500 employees at field sales and services offices, contributing to fewer disputes and greater teamwork.

• Provided diversity reports to senior management to measure progress in attracting, developing, and retaining traditionally underrepresented groups. In addition, coordinated events to attract diverse talent and target diversity goals. Awarded EMC Silver Medal for accomplishments in 2006.

• Oversaw Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) program to provide EMC over $400,000 in tax credits in 2010.

• Successfully completed 25 Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) audits to keep EMC in full compliance for receipt of multi-million dollar contracts.

• Completed over 100 responses to government requests for equal opportunity questionnaires necessary to ensure EMC received high dollar contracts (over $50 million total). Awarded EMC Gold Medal for results in 2008.

• Directed collection of necessary documentation to establish HR compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley act. Took noncompliant international program to full compliance for last 3 years.

Employee Relations Specialist, Massachusetts Division of Employment and Training 1996-2000

Responsible for administration of a quality workforce and uniform compliance with labor laws through communication to managers of their legal responsibilities. In addition, responsible for defense of management when the agency was involved in litigation.

• Provided solutions and coaching to management and senior executive staff on matters including employee performance, progressive discipline, and maintaining productivity in the workforce. Counseled management on interpretation of union contracts. Drafted corrective action plans for employees with performance problems, and disciplinary action for employees in violation of workforce standards.

• Mediated and investigated employee disputes, including charges of disparate treatment, discrimination, and harassment prohibited by various civil rights laws, to enhance employee cooperation and morale, while also taking proactive steps to prevent the filing of litigation.

• Participated in union contract negotiations, as well as represented management in grievance hearings, civil service hearings, and arbitrations.

• Appointed as Sexual Harassment Officer for the Division. Served as on-call investigator to process sexual harassment complaints from the Division’s 1,200 employees, and to report the results of investigations to the Division’s executive staff.

• Defended the Division against sexual harassment and other discrimination complaints by drafting 16 management position statements before the MCAD and through proactive means such as universal employee sexual harassment training.

• Co-authored, along with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, responses to employment - related civil complaints filed against the Division of Employment and Training. Acted as principle liaison with the Attorney General’s Office on other litigation matters such as preparation of records for subpoenas, replies to discovery requests, and strategy in conducting depositions.
