Achievements
Program Development: Developed a Lab-Pack Program by researching disposal options and companies for various types of hazardous waste that shipped 2,500 drums annually. Results: Decreased the number of drums that were at or nearing their storage date. Avoided getting a citation from the state EPA regulatory office.
Safety Programs: Acted as subject expert to develop the Environmental/Safety Program by writing safety manual, training 185 maintenance workers and instructing 40 to 50 new residents weekly on lead based paint preventative strategies. Results: Reduced lead poisoning in the children by 40% in the first year. Reduced the safety violations and time missed from work because of accidents by 12% in the first year.
Risk Management (EPA, OSHA): Approved agencies for government funding by conducting 1,100 environmental assessments annually on property to be acquired by housing authorities or managed by non-profit agencies. Results: Prevented the Meridian Housing Authority from purchasing contaminated property that could cost over $50K in clean-up efforts.
Policy/Procedures: Acted as technical manager for a nation-wide project sponsored by HUD and wrote standard operating procedures for subcontractors and monitored procedures. Results: Standardize procedures throughout the U.S. and its territories, which yield dependable and reliable laboratory data.
Classify Data/Objects: Sampled wastewater and stormwater for the evaluation of specified chemical levels. Results: 10 to 15 companies were informed annually of all chemicals that were over the regulatory limits and established corrective action plans to lower limits preventing excess contaminates from leaching off the property.
Analytical Reports: Conducted 1,200+ environmental assessments. Result: Wrote reports stating any chemical activities on the subject property in the past or present.
Employee Training: Wrote safety manuals and conducted safety training for 210+ maintenance employees for the Memphis Housing Authority and the Meridian Housing Authority. Results: Increase awareness of the hazards in their workplace and protection procedures, thus reducing accidents and injuries while at work.
Waste Management: Reviewed 2,500+ hazardous waste profiles for approval into the TSD facilities and in accordance with the permit and determined proper methods for packaging, shipping and labeling waste drums from military sites. Results: Non-permitted chemicals were not approved for acceptance preventing permit termination or fines and detailed shipping methods averted DOT infractions.
