RESEARCH ASSIGNMENTS

 Present work: Reduction of hERG binding affinity of ligand in antidepressant research, in order to reduce cardiac side effects

 Synthesis of antidepressant agent: Synthesized Heterocyclic compounds showed nM activity, which is under Patent filling. Its Chiral (R & S) isomer synthesis was also attempted.

 Chiral separation of anti-depressant: Chiral separation of enantiomers in gram scale using chiral HPLC.

 Anticancer drug design: Synthesis of quinazoline related derivative

 Monitored synthesis of histone deacetylase (HDAc) inhibitors: Synthesis, structural modification, characterization of products and investigation (synthesis of heterocyclic compounds)

 Synthesis of special Donor-Acceptor System of fullerene compounds, multiple adduct synthesis (using Bingel reaction).

 Two projects on medicinal plants:

• Isolation of active anti-diarrhoeal compound from a medicinal plant

• Isolation and characterization of one compound from a medicinal plant, which showed moderate anti-inflammatory activity.

 Gas permeation studies in polyarylates and dispersed polymeric systems

 Synthesis of monomers, additives (liquid crystalline compounds, metal complexes), polymers, Polyarylate Membranes

 Additive dispersed membrane preparation. Determination of their physical properties. Gas permeation studies. Correlation of gas permeability and selectivity with physical properties of membrane.

 Multi-step (15-18 steps) target molecule synthesis: Anti-HIV indolizidine alkaloid, (+)-castanospermine (derivatives) and (-) slaframine alkaloid, attempted using PET (Photo Induced Electron Transfer) Reaction

 Bulk scale resolution of enantiomers of anti-cancer compound using L- tartaric acid derivatives

 Testing of raw, intermediate and finished products

 Raw materials sampling; purity testing of raw materials, intermediate compounds, finished products using instrumental methods & chemical analysis (like Volumetric Titrations and Gravimetric analysis)

 Medicinal Chemistry:

• Rational drug design according to Traditional Medicinal Chemistry and Computer Modelling (like High Throughput Screening & Fragment Base Drug Design) used as a supportive tool for the discovery in anticancer research

 Organic Synthetic Chemistry:

• Multi-step synthesis: purification, identification, structure elucidation by spectroscopic techniques like TLC, IR, UV, GC, NMR, HPLC, Mass Techniques

• Chiral enantiomer separation in gram scale using semi-preparative Chiral column
