Licensed Steam Engineer with over 25 years in the pulp and paper industry (Power and Recovery), supporting operations and striving to improve the process and be cost effective while planning and leading maintenance projects on both Babcock and Wilcox and Kvaerner (Gotaverken) Chemical Recovery and Power boilers, rising and falling film Evaporators, Concentrators, Lime Kiln and Digester, 2- 30 Megawatt turbine generators, 8 Hydro generators, water treatment effluent facility.
Engineered the installation of new Iris Flame Detection System for 8 startup burners and 2 load burners on the Kvaerner chemical recovery boiler, this resulted in much greater boiler stability overall and was a very successful cost savings and reliability project for Domtar Industries.
Instrumental in the success of Honeywell’s Fail Safe Control Burner Management System installation, from factory acceptance to startup, including graphics, block logic programming, software, hardware installation and PM maintenance schedule. This project was a conversion from analog control to digital processor control, resulting in a major reduction in down time.
Point person for retrofit of interface controls, software and internals of ABB Flakt environmental precipitators. This project allowed them to stay within emission regulations during Annual outage shutdowns and startups, saving thousands of dollars annually in environmental violations.
Point person for complete Recovery boiler retrofit of Rapid Drain and Low Pressure Drain Systems using the latest IQ actuators by Rotork. This project gave us a significant increase in our boiler Safety rating with BlrBac and FM Global.
Planned the removal and new installation of recovery burner spray pumps (Allen Bradley Stromberg) with Allen Bradley Power Flex 700 series variable frequency drives, allowing for greater liquor header control.
Installation of Allen Bradley PLC’s and related software, including RS Logix and Panel Builder for automated secondary Rodding Masters.
Extensive training at Honeywell’s Automation College for DCS/TDC 3000, Programmable Logic Managers 620-35 processors and I/O racks. Including assembly, software instruction and interpretation for ladder and block logic.
Major contributor within the utilities dept. for Honeywell TDC 3000 rebuilds and software upgrades for Y2K.
Excellent skills in planning, reading blue prints, wiring diagrams, troubleshooting electrical systems and control loops within a Power and Utilities environment.
