Research Assistant:
Project Title: Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of TWEEL Geometric Parameter Modifications on Spoke Dynamics during High Speed Rolling January 2007 – November 2008
•The acoustic signature and noise produced by non-pneumatic wheels such as the Michelin TWEEL is a critical design criteria for automotive and other mobility applications. During high speed rolling the Tweel produces acoustic noise which is hypothesized to be due to resonant vibration of the Tweel spokes.
•In order to identify and help understand the causes of acoustic noise for a rolling TWEEL a nonlinear two-dimensional finite element model using ABAQUS was developed and simulated.
•The mode shapes and Natural Frequencies were extracted in Abaqus. Vibrations were tracked and the frequency spectrum was plotted using Matlab/Simulink.
•Three dimensional Model of the Spoke was created and both the in plane and out of plane vibrations were tracked. Several Design Changes were done using Catia V5 in order to reduce the oscillations.
Undergraduate Project: Online tool wear monitoring using Lab VIEW
•The objective of the project was to make use of the sensors; monitoring systems and software to develop an efficient system which can monitor the cutting tool wear online and to get an optimum tool life possible.
•Developed an algorithm named Support Vector Machines using LabVIEW and MATLAB for analyzing the vibration signals and predicted the cutting tool life.
•Completed a mini project on Progressive Die Design for an engine gasket
