Crane and Rigging, Tug boat and Yacht Captain, General Superintendent and Project Management
1976 Through 2010
1976
I worked for Calin Crane Co. in Cocoa, Florida. I started with this company when I was 16 years old; as an oiler in the crane yard. By the time I graduated high school, I was operating a 1972 108 Link Belt friction crane. Mostly on hourly jobs where I got much experience on how to assemble and disassemble the crane daily.
After Hurricane David in 1981, I was on Operator / Rigger in the removal of damaged boats and sew walls in the Fort Pierce Marina, Ft. Pierce, Florida.
1982
I worked for East Coast Crane and Rigging Co. as a Erector, Operator and Rigger. I got experience on all equipment in their inventory. I worked on a 300 ton Manitowoc Ringer Crane that was set up on a barge in Tampa, Florida installing new cooling towers at a power plant in Tampa Bay.
1983
I worked at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral Florida. I was licensed to operate all equipment that the U.S. Government had. This included all overhead cranes, Portal Cranes, Ship Winches, and am qualified to do all the set up and rigging needed. My duties while at Cape Canaveral were extensive; I had a U.S. Government secret security clearance. I loaded 38 ton Nuclear War Heads on the Trident Submarines, to installing an air conditioner on the 300 ft VIB (Vehicle Inverted Building)
1984
I was intimately involved with the U.S. Government Humming Bird Space Reef Project; In which we took down a 150 ft umbilical tower off base, transported it to Port Canaveral Trident dock, loaded it on a barge, shipped it 20 miles off shore where it was then set with explosives and sunk to make the reef.
A high light and pivotal moment in my career was being in charge of the crane and rigging that was used on a 150 ft LCU landing craft. We loaded a 30 ton Hydro crane and went off shore into the Atlantic Ocean in 12 ft seas. This was immediately after the explosion of the Shuttle Challenger in 1986.
Our crew was the first response team. Our ship located and retrieved the booster rocket that caused the disaster. We found the right wing and left landing gear, and the crew cabin of the Challenger.
After the investigation was completed we took the remains of the Shuttle and deposited it into the 150 ft deep minuteman silo at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base and encapsulated it with a 35 ton lid. I continued working at the cape through 1994.
1995
After this experience I was compelled to go to sea. I went to school, studied and gained two years of sea time to qualify to take the U.S. Coast Guard Exam and received my 100 ton Masters Unlimited Passenger Captains License with additional training and endorsements in towing and radar.
1996 – 1998
I worked with Beyel Brothers Crane and Rigging Co. (Reference) Steve Beyel (Cell 561-***-****)
I was captain of a 98 ft Washington Tug Boat “The Salvation Rose” my responsibilities included maintaining the operations of the crew and crane barges in Vero Beach, Florida in the successful demolition and removal of HWY 60 bridges in Vero Beach, Fl. We loaded the barges that went 8 miles off shore, out of the Fort Pierce Inlet and created a new fishing reef at specific locations designated by the State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Management.
1998
I worked for Richards Paint MFG. (Reference) Eric Richard (Cell 321-***-****) I was the captain of their corporate yacht. My duties were to run and maintain the yacht, keeping it in bristle condition, entertainment, providing accommodations, deep sea fishing, diving, and travel of all customers. Our trips were in the Florida Keys, all parts of the Bahamas, the eastern sea board and the Gulf of Mexico through and up to New Orleans.
2002
I have also gone through S.T.C.W. (Standards of Training Certification and Watch Keeping) which was through the U. S. Coast Guard, hands on training of survival Techniques, Safety, Social Responsibilities, Basic Fire Prevention, fire fighting and First aid. I continued working for Richards thru 2003 when the owner sold the boat.
2003 to Present
I have worked for Turner Construction Co. which was a (21 Billion plus company) and some other construction companies as you can see per my resume to date. I have worked for some of the most impressive companies in the U.S. with duties ranging from crane operation and rigging to General Superintendent, Project Management.
