Met several times per week with undergraduates majoring in the Arabic language to converse in the Egyptian dialect on a variety of topics. Assisted students on projects for their Egyptian dialect class, answering any questions they had and developing their formal presentation skills. Assisted students in building a dictionary of Egyptian dialect words and phrases they could refer back to once their time working with me had ended.

Accomplishments:

• Developed and helped students to perfect speaking skills in the Egyptian dialect through introduction of new vocabulary and through on-the-spot grammar and pronunciation corrections.

• Enhanced student understanding of Egyptian culture as well as Arab customs and traditions through facilitating discussions in Arabic on a variety of topics related to Arab culture and life in the Middle East.

PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS

• Currently conducting research for the Open Source Analysis Project (OSAP), the capstone project of the EHLS program, under the guidance of a mentor from Defense Intelligent Agency (DIA). Findings from my research paper entitled Unemployment and Employment of Scientists and Engineers in Libya will be presented at a formal symposium at Georgetown University in June 2012. This paper will present findings on Libyan nuclear scientists and engineers, who have remained unemployed while the Interim government works to restore stability. Those trained scientists might be targeted by terrorist organizations or hostile governments. Research is being conducted in English and Arabic using websites, academic blogs, investigative and Congressional reports, journals, social media, and newspapers.
