The Canadian and US DC's currently use two different Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). The support for both systems will not extend much beyond December 2008. • An efficient but over mature distributed application called WICS which was developed in-house. The platform on which it operates is obsolete and has experienced elevated failure rates. Projected losses of US $90K/day could result in the event of a system outage. • An externally hosted centralized application called PKMS (from the vendor Manhattan Associates) that is owned by Ceva Logistics formerly known as TNT. This project plans to deploy the WMS Master Application (GEODE GX) at a pilot DC site (C35 Winnipeg) which is currently operated with PkMS. The project is part of a larger program to replace WICS and PkMS in three phases, first for small DC’s, then for large DC’s, and finally for complex T/DC’s. Based on the experience with the conversions from WICS to PkMS, the business is most concerned with maintaining productivity, storage density, and inventory accuracy. The pilot deployment will be evaluated against these criteria. A business study to be conducted in parallel with the project will also help direct future deployments in the program.

Primary Responsibilities:

 Leading the Offshore WMB technical team..

 Involved in design and development of WMB flows.

 Involved in requirement gathering and system study with Onsite.

Period : February 2005 to December 2006.

Platform : MVS, MQ series, CICS, TELON, COBOL, JCL and DB2.

Team Size : 8

Role : Mainframe Developer, Team Member

Description:

Existing system:

Individual buyers (or group of buyers) currently contact each specific vendor to request price quotes and quantity on hand of the commodity to be procured. Excel spreadsheets and Access databases are then used to supplement this manual process. The lack of visibility to the ever-changing prices and quantities of produce results in a cumbersome process with potential inaccuracies on price or quantity on hand for a specific commodity. Again, the volatility of the produce procurement market reflects a system with limited functionality to support purchase order changes and discrepancies. Manual intervention supplements the changes and adjustments necessary to procure produce in an unpredictable market. In a market where constant change is the norm, manual work, discrepancies, and inaccuracies can be costly.

iTrade:

The iTrade collaborative workflow solution provides a commodity “trading floor” for buyers and their suppliers. The electronic order management module automates the order processing with increased efficiencies in purchasing produce at the best market prices available, improved real-time visibility to price/quantity fluctuations, synchronized changes and adjustments to purchase orders, as well as, automated generation of BOL and COS. The scope of this project is to provide a centralized web based commodity workflow solution that enables real time communication between Safeway and its vendors focusing on the order management function of the Produce Supply Chain process. It provides increased visibility of the procurement process to all participating parties including transportation, accounting, and National Commodity Specialist (includes Commodity Supervisors & Inventory Supply Supervisors). Instead of receiving PO's from each of our vendors, we will only receive PO's from iTrade on behalf of our vendors.

Primary Responsibilities:

 Preparation of LLD for the requirements.

 Developed 4 CICS-MQ Series online programs.

 Developed a MQ series batch program and made changes to the existing TELON program.

 Developed four procedure division copybook codings.

 Unit, Regression, User Acceptance and System Testing.

 Developed JCL jobs for MQ series trigger control.
