Anvil is a large 13 acre facility with 650 union employees which make gray and ductile iron fittings. I am one of five Maintenance supervisors which lead a large group of maintenance staff. My jobs as a supervisor primarily to over see daily repairs, daily preventive maintenance program, over see safety training and repairs, scheduling and planning of need projects, create and issue work orders to a portion of the foundry which includes Disa’s, Muller’s and sand systems. I regularly use Infor PMMS system, Je tech payroll system, Excel, and other systems built for Anvil.

Maintenance Manager

Hamburg Manufacturing is a family owned, 3rd generation Gray and Ductile iron casting foundry. I am responsible for the management of the Maintenance Department which includes all daily maintenance operations and personnel. I head up all plant improvements and upgrades and over seeing 9 mechanics on two shifts in addition to production operations and personnel for a six to seven day a week operation. I answer directly to the Plant Superintendent and the owner of the company. In addition, over see a half a million annual budget for both Maintenance dept and plant operations, implemented and developed a maintenance inventory control system, created a Maintenance Data base system, in charge of the hiring, training, coaching and terminating of the maintenance staff. I have implemented a limited Lean Manufacturing in the attempt to computerize and increase efficacies and reduce cost.

I am a very hand’s on manager. Since joining Hamburg Mfg I have done a great deal of work in upgrading electrical systems, training long time employees new skills, up to today’s norms, and bringing in higher skill mechanics, building and designing new systems from both mechanic engineer and electrical designing. I have invested a lot of time in trying to bring a plant with poorly maintained and obsolete equipment in line with current NEC, OSHA and EPA requirements in which to make the plant more productive and efficient.

Crystal is one of six companies, which makes up the PMC Group. The plant I work at is a chemical manufacturer of mainly wax-based products, which are used largely in the automotive, cosmetic and housing industries. As the Lead Electrician, I am responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electrical items, which include various mixers, Panel Distribution, motor replacement and repair, Scale Systems, Fire Alarm and Control Systems and Fire Sprinklers, Micro Motion Flow Meters. I also get involved with repairs on Fork Trucks, Boiler Systems, various pumps, tanks and mixing systems, HVAC systems and controls /Energy Managements and chillers.

I work very closely with the Director of Engineering for PMC Group, the Business Manager, and Plant Manager on various maintenance issues I do a lot of work on addressing regulatory concerns as it relates to various regulatory branches of federal and local authorities. On a regular basis, I meet with vendors, and contractors who we do business. As the only electrician in the plant, my responsibilities make me “on-call” 24/7. I am involved with almost every R&D project, machine upgrades, and machine repairs. My position tends to extends far past my job description, which includes involvement with maintaining inventory control and its reductions, organizing of stock of parts of hardware and making the maintenance department from an electrical prospective more proactive rather then reactive.

“1st Class Machinist” / Maintenance Mechanic

This plant is part of a global packing company. This plant manufactures multi colored and multi layer bags. The bags are a mixture of plastic, paper and foiled papers. We print on the bags paper and plastic with both a 8 Color Flexi Graphic Printing, 8 Color Gravure Color Printing. We get the plastic from both Plastic Injection Roll form Molding and Plastic Blow Molding. The plastic is then run through various Plastic Slitting equipment to be placed in the Bag Machines to make the actual bag. My job is to resolve any mechanical issues that occur during my working shift. As a Maintenance Machinist is it my responsibility to or modify and or make any parts necessary for any repairs. As the person “on shift”, it is also my reasonability to make sure any break downs are resolved, Preventive Maintenance completed, Machine modifications are done, order parts when needed, and work orders are completed in a timely manner.

Maintenance/ Plant Electrician

This Plant made Liquid cartons for Milk and various liquids until the plant was closed. I was mainly responsible for working on electrical issues, such as, trouble shooting PLC’s AC and DC drive units, running electrical services for equipment that was moved or added. I also worked on various computer systems, time clocks and other controlling systems; i.e. re-grinders, compactors, printers and associated equipment. In order to manufacture the cartons, the plant had a host of presses with flexi- Graphic printers, folders, stackers, glue table, boxing and packaging equipment. I also did many mechanical repairs, such as, replacing bearing, shafts, repairing of rollers, among other types of repairs.

The company I work for is a "full-line" supplier for not only meats, but also other types of perishable foods. My job is of a managerial nature and I perform a great deal of physical work. I also interface with sales representatives, order equipment, parts and other supplies for the plant. I interact and delegate duties; I work with other contractors and interface with other Individuals that have a need for and from the maintenance department. The plant itself consists of many sections with different temperature levels. It is largely cooled by ammonia, but we also have Freon which is R-22 and R-502 and we hold temperatures from 38 to -10 degrees. Myself and the Plant Engineer was responsible for maintaining all systems for cooling, heating, electrical, plumbing, offices, computers systems, and all fork truck batteries, chargers, Video Jets, Shrink Wraps, Conveyors and Pallet trucks that are all electrically driven and controlled. We are also responsible for rack systems, doors, gates, sprinkler systems, building improvements.

Electrical Apprenticeship Program

The program was designed to meet the suspected legislation that would require all people to be licensed,

however the legislation did not pass, so the program was dropped. Until the class was dropped I covered an

extensive study of N.E.C electrical code, ohm’s law and various other electrical theory’s and principle and

practices.

2002 Basic Programmable Logic Controllers.

Penn State Berks Reading/ Lehigh Valley Campus

It was a 24 hour introductory course that taught basics involved with Allen-Bradley PLC-5 and SLC-500

Programmable Logic Controllers with RS Logic software, but the concepts taught also apply to the PLC's of

other manufactures. I was exposed to basic ladder logic, ladder logic execution, discrete I/O, memory

addressing, timers, counters, analog I/O, sequential operations, math and

comparison instructions and troubleshooting.
