Nokia is the world leader in mobility, driving the transformation and growth of the converging Internet and communications industries. Annual sales >$60B, Phone Sales >1M/day
• Buyer: Direct work with marketing, sales and suppliers. Identify, procure, and manage content and applications software for product differentiation in embedded product for America’s regions. Manage multiple negotiations at same time from small (~$50k) to multimillion dollar contracts across many different geographical management teams. Multimillion dollar increase in annual sales revenue. Achieved increased brand recognition and 100% ROI.
• Process Development: Change management leadership in alignment of technology development across all material areas including electronics, mechanics, software, and outsourcing. Common process flow to allow for faster job rotation and faster development cycle time with common development reporting. Measurement of cycle time impact is currently being evaluated. 10% cost reduction of materials each 6 month period, >$2B annual savings.
• Global quality “Godfather”: leading of Top-5 quality improvements impacting Nokia costs. Fast identification and response to problems driven by cost impact avoidance (quality, availability, reliability) – calculated cost avoidance more than $100M.
• Project Management: Global implementation of environmental compliance with RoHS – environmental compliance. Required changes to Nokia’s methods used in R&D and manufacturing as well as with materials from our supplier’s. Developed SW tools to manage and track compliance to known restricted substances to manage global transition of products at both Nokia and supplier manufacturing materials and processes. Change impacted all Nokia products and future products in development, resulting in 100% compliance and impacting >100 Phones / >2000 components.
• Technology Team Leader: Created, developed and led a highly functional team of electronics Technology Quality Managers and Project Development Quality Engineers (23 people). Focus on supplier materials, Nokia R&D, and manufacturing impacting cost, quality, risk management, time, and availability. Member electronics Supply Line Management Team reporting to Nokia Executive VP. 50% factory defect reduction and multimillion dollar risk avoidance managed. High employee retention rate (<2%) and internal employee satisfaction levels.
Raytheon (former Texas Instruments Defense) 1984-1999
Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services.
• Elected as a Member Group Technical Staff. As a Component Applications Engineer I was responsible as a technology expert in both documenting our requirements and as well as the processing, manufacturing and end use of IC’s / Semiconductors. .
• Supplier Technology Manager supporting Sourcing, R&D, manufacturing and our government customers. This resulted in developing our corporate technology strategy ranging from alignment of supplier base to on-going management of materials selected and procured.
• Managed life cycle of products at component level for many projects ranging from those in advanced development phase to those towards end of life cycle and requiring warranty support.
• Brought change into our methods of working by working closely with our customers, R&D, and manufacturing. Successfully negotiated and deployed the development of our corporate strategy for use of best in class commercial components and also the use of non-traditional materials for use in military applications.
• I participated in many multiple internal trainings related to quality management – Six Sigma, DOE and supported efforts of winning 1992 Malcolm Baldrige Award for Manufacturing (as Texas Instruments – Defense)
