Project Experience
Childers Square (Complete Technology Integration)
Challenge: Program base building lighting control system of an eight story building to be energy efficient.
I was originally employed to program the base building lighting control system of this eight story building. The building was comprised of two basements, five tenanted floors and a plant room floor. The project quickly spiralled to more than commissioning a lighting control system. Childers Square was required to be energy efficient so the use of motion sensors, timers and lux sensors were implemented. Due to the basements being incorrectly wired a work around was required to achieve the correct operation of the lighting, this required that I research new products and create non-standard programs within the lighting control systems.
When tenants started moving in, I was required to select the appropriate equipment, explain to the electricians how to install the equipment, and time manage between projects to ensure they were completed in a timely and cost effective manner, and to design specification. Once these jobs where complete, I was required to explain how the lighting control systems operated to the client.
Due to key office staff leaving in the middle of the project, I was required to manage all the necessary works. This included:
• Design - liaising with consultants and engineers to design Greenstar and NABERS compliant lighting systems
• Cost management - estimating and quoting costs for remaining fit outs, researching and purchasing equipment
• Project management - effectively managing time in the office and coordinating multiple activities on site, including communicating with electricians, builders, consultancies, engineers, and end clients.
Achievement: The project was delivered on time, on budget and to design specifications
Department of Housing and Community Services(Phase 4 Electrical and Data)
Challenge: Complete electrical and data fitout and lighting upgrade (outside business hours).
The Department of Housing and Community Services (DHCS) employed Phase 4 Electrical and Data to; complete the electrical and data aspects of their ground floor office fit out in conjunction with a lighting upgrade to level one (to be completed after hours).
I was employed as the leading hand to complete the job. Responsible for the day to day management of running a productive team of around five tradespeople including:
• Design and construction input
• The allocation of work and monitoring of progress against the work plan. managing variations and completing works included as install drawings.
• Planning, managing and training employees
• Purchasing equipment
• Liaising with the builder and client to deliver to design specifications.,
A difficulty of this project was the inclusion of the level one lighting upgrade to be done after hours. I was required to manage staff fatigue and requirements to ensure there were staff split across day and night shifts to complete both tasks timely whilst maximising time/staff efficiencies.
Achievement: The project was delivered on time, on budget and to design specifications
20 Allara St. (Phase 4 Electrical and Data)
Phase 4 Electrical and Data were commissioned by Jones Lang LaSalle to investigate multiple floors lights and lighting control systems for Greenstar and NABERS purposes.
It was my role to;
• Document individual light fittings; record vital information, e.g. wattages and type; record switch zones and circuits on a drawing and record how the switch zone operates e.g. by contactors, time switches (including hours of operation) motion and lux sensors.
• Provide clear documentation so a draftsman could interpret and create as built drawings, and an engineer could do his calculations and interpretations for Greenstar and NABERS.
Achievement: The production of clear documentation to assist draft persons and engineers to complete Greenstar and NABERS ratings
Nick Scali Fyshwick (Reece Henshaw Electrical)
Nick Scali commissioned Reece Henshaw Electrical to install new light fittings. During the installation, management at Nick Scali asked me to find a way to reduce their energy bills and time spent changing globes.
I was required to;
• Research various lamp types and the effect of dimming on halogen lamps.
• Complete a report, on cost effective works to be undertaken reduce energy consumption.
Achievement: Nick Scali used the report and implemented energy saving measures.
