EXPERIENCE General Dynamics, Seattle, Washington. 2004-Present
Senior Systems Engineer Technical Staff
Responsibilities:
• Interpret customer requirements in order to design, implement, train, and support (on-site) Unified Communications (Voice, Data, and Video) systems.
• Frequently act as technical spokesperson for multi-disciplined technology efforts within the organization. Provide architectural design and documentation relating to new communications systems, as well as innovative methods in which to implement existing technologies.
Accomplishments:
• Designed, tested, delivered, and trained US Army’s multi-billion dollar tactical communications system that provides high-availability transport of mission critical voice, video and data systems. System design encompasses layer 2 switching, multicast and multi-protocol routing solutions (RIP, OSPF, OSPFv3, and BGP), QoS, IA, DMVPN, Active Directory Domain Services, and a wide range of network management applications.
• Conducted design and on-site setup of a large-scale network security solution resulting in acceptance by customer. Solution delivered Cisco IOS zone-based and appliance based firewalls, Cisco IOS and appliance based Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Juniper JUNOS based firewall and IPS, and management appliances such as Cisco Security Manager, CS-MARS, and Juniper Network and Security Manager.
• Developed and provided on-site training and engineering support of the customer’s Network Operations Center (NOC) designed to monitor and manage their Unified Communications Network. The NOC included multivendor network management applications consisting of SolarWinds toolsets, Orion Network Configuration Manager, Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, Netcordia NetMRI, SNMPc, and General Dynamic Network Management System.
• Delivered 600-node VoIP dial-plan solution to support complex unique military requirements (Multi-Level Precedence and Preemption dialing system) in a multivendor PBX environment. Architected voice network design that encompasses H323 and SIP trunking, SCCP and MGCP gateways (T1/E1 CAS and PRI), and supporting media resources.
• Analyzed customer requirements to develop, test, pilot, document, and train a virtualized Network Operation Center based on VMware ESX virtualization technology. System included a clustered Dell hardware with virtualized iSCSI SAN using HP LeftHand networks SAN product suite. Solution encompassed NIC teaming, VMotion, HA (High Availability), and DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler) features.
EXPERIENCE The MITRE Corporation, Heidelberg, Germany. 2004
Senior Networking Systems and Distributed Systems Engineer
Responsibilities:
• Provided engineering design, test and implementation of enterprise communications products and systems leveraging new technologies. Developed strategy to implement and integrate these technologies into existing customer (US Army V Corps) network systems architecture, while maintaining interoperability with existing legacy systems.
Accomplishments:
• Designed and documented systems architecture implemented during several critical network deployments. Network design implemented LAN and WAN architectures and Information Assurance (scanning, intrusion detection, firewalls and access control).
• Developed briefings on behalf of the organization to convey their position to stakeholders regarding new communications technologies. Frequently briefed senior leadership in regards to communications asset readiness, configuration, capability, and contingency options.
• Co-architect of $4.2M program to rollout Voice over IP (VoIP) capability into the organization.
EXPERIENCE General Dynamics, Mannheim, Germany. 1998-2004
Principal Member Technical Staff and Site Manager
Responsibilities:
• Supervised a remote General Dynamics site responsible to provide technical assistance and customized training to customer on complex military and commercial communications systems. This included scheduling of tasks and employee manpower and cost estimating.
• As principle site technical lead, provided insight, oversight, and direction on all technical solutions and training materials created and produced by the team.
Accomplishments:
• Authored several books used worldwide by the military community, designed to aid in understanding and troubleshooting of complex multivendor communications systems.
• As technical lead, designed, developed and presented specialized training curriculum to the customer in the area of Network Management, Data, VoIP, Security systems, and Microsoft Server networking and administration.
• Developed and presented annual site Program Review briefing to customer’s Commanding General. Briefing described charter and services provided by our team to their organization. Successfully achieved goal to substantiate the need and funding request for the program.
EXPERIENCE GTE Corporation, United States and various world-wide locations. 1981-1998
