Selected Responsibilities and Accomplishments

Managed all aspects of a department including recruitment, hiring and training of staff, budgeting, scheduling work and activities, establishing policies and procedures, procurement of supplies, performance evaluation and motivation of employees.

Planned and coordinated the daily work schedule for 159 active duty military, reservist and civilian personnel in 4 diverse maintenance repair and inspection work centers support 5 different aircraft. Consistently met exacting timelines and project demands for worldwide mobility.

Boosted productivity and morale through development of a comprehensive computer based training system to aid trainees in preparation for career development testing. A variety of questioning techniques were utilized to enhance trainee knowledge, skills and abilities, yielding a 100% pass rate for 3 straight years.

Reviewed and analyzed quality assurance reports and resolved deficiencies on a regular basis. Identified negative trends for immediate resolution and secured an annual pass rate of 96.5% on 220 audits….a 5 year high.

Researched best practices and coordinated with organizational supply to locally manufacture a unique probe holder tool for eddy current inspection of an aircraft main wheel. Having the normal red tape associated with such a unique procurement circumvented, the availability of this specialized tool led to the dramatic elimination of an inspection backlog.

Researched the benefits and capabilities of utilizing digital radiography for x-raying aircraft for internal and external damage and stress. Wrote justification to receive the authorization needed to acquire the new equipment and accessories necessary to implement this safer scan methodology.

Started the organization’s 1st-ever Non-destructive analysis laboratory from the ground up. Selected an aircraft, researched its inspection history and maintenance intervals, established protocols, procured equipment and secured the staffing necessary to successfully analyze the skin of these aircraft for stress and deficiencies using x-ray techniques.

Analyzed the obnoxious fumes emanating from an atomic absorption spectrometer against OSHA hazards, environmental regulations and standards. Replaced the entire exhaust structure in place with a new ventilation system that brought the work area into compliance with all safety standards.

Devised the project plan to completely refurbish 2 C-130 aircraft within 10 days. Directed the 24 hour support from 4 work centers to restore the aircraft interiors, needed mechanics and outside paint. Project was completed on-time with 1st aircraft sold to the Iraqi Air Force.

Enhanced morale through promotion of a team-based work atmosphere. Provided assignments of increased responsibility, opportunities for additional training, and performance incentives that encouraged a sense of ownership in the overall operation.

Reduced downtime through improvement of the organization’s preventative maintenance system. Established a procedure for documenting equipment status in a secure online resource with the ability to flag needed inspections, last repairs and scheduled maintenance.

Partnered with Boeing engineers to devise a new repair technique for a damaged main landing gear door on a C-17 aircraft. Use of this technique in place of the normal repair procedure saved $250K in replacement costs.

Pioneered the inspection and pre-paint of mission critical aircraft parts prior to issue by the supply system. This new process eliminated over 7,000 aircraft downtime hours per year, waiting for a certain part. The process became benchmarked and a standard procedure for 4 other aircraft bases.
