Work Experience
2007-2008: Writer (home-based, Kitchener, Ontario). While on a leave of absence from teaching, I have been working on two writing projects: the first, now completed, was a contract to write student support materials for a critical thinking textbook recently released by Nelson Education Ltd.; the other is a play that I am writing in collaboration with a writing partner.
2000-2007: Teacher (St. Louis Adult Learning Centre, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada). I was responsible for the design and delivery of English literature, media, and social science courses offered in accordance with the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.
1997-1998: Special Needs Advisor (Student Advisory Service, University of St. Andrews, Scotland). I was responsible for advising and tutoring students with disabilities, while drafting policy for the SAS and University. I developed the faculty resource materials that aided academic staff in their interactions with dyslexic students.
1994-1996: Accommodations and Exam Coordinator (Services for Students with Disabilities, University of Western Ontario, Canada). In this position, I facilitated students with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities in making special arrangements for classes, independent studies, and examinations. I also worked as part of a team of professionals advocating for students with disabilities. This post included membership on a joint committee of students, administrators, and counselors assessing university policy and funding with respect to persons with disabilities.
1993-94: Teacher (Synchrono Language School, Kozani, Greece). I planned and implemented EFL classes for children and adolescents at all levels, teaching to the target of the Cambridge Proficiency Certificate. This position also involved organizing extracurricular sports and social activities, and providing formal and informal evaluations.
