Prior Positions:

CHARLIE'S YARD CARE: winter and summer 2010 to date

When faced with no income, I started working on peoples yards during the summer and snow removal during the winter. This is great exercise and yields tremendous satisfaction when done. The only problem is that it does not yield a very good income, but it is ongoing today.

US CENSUS BUREAU: spring and summer 2010

Working and an enumerator, calling on people at their homes or vacation homes is an interesting job especially at a resort town like Ocean City Md. In most cases we had to locate the owners of the condo, apartments or houses and then take their income information and number in the household. This was challenging at times as many would not want to talk with a government employee. If presented correctly everything seemed to work well. It was fun.

OCEAN DOWNS RACEWAY: spring and most of summer 2009

Horse race betting is a fast pace business and the teller has to handle the money very carefully. Large sums of money are exchanged nightly. This was the fun of the job. Meeting new people nightly and cheering them on, while handling their money became very interesting and rewarding. It was just plain fun to see new people win.

GEORGE S MAY INTERNATIONAL COMPANY:spring and summer 2008

After going to Chicago for training, I was turned loose on the Md-Del Eastern Shore companies with ways to improve their companies. The economy was declining rapidly and every where I went it was a torture just to get an interview. With no sales, I was terminated, along with everyone in my class who worked in the USA.

RHODE RIVER BOAT SALES: spring and summer 2007:

Joining a small branch of a larger boats sales organization was a new experience and very enjoyable. I had to clean up the mess left by the prior manager and get ready for sales that summer. The economy failing and our county showing 16.5% unemployment made things difficult, but we kept trying. I was making headway when the owner came in town and brought his son, who wanted to come to the beach, leaving no room for me. He took over an organized system, but still had trouble making sales and the company folded up that winter.

POHANKA MERCEDES BENZ: spring, summer and fall 2006:

Mercedes is a unique item where the customers generally know more about the cars than the salesmen. Yet during my time there, I sold 35 cars, worth $1.6 million, got certified by factory schools and was ready to stay 10 or more years. That did not happen, when the sales manager called me in after I made a delivery and released me without cause. I had never been fired before and asked why he was doing this. No answer. I thought I was doing pretty well for a beginner.

ABLE BUS SERVICE INC: Jan 1976 thru spring 2005

This school bus company was started with some credit and $3.00 in my pocket. We grew the company to sales of $1,650,000 and went from one old GMC bus to 56 buses mostly new. As owner, I was involved in all functions of the operation, including driving. We handled some large projects like the Survivors of the Holocaust event in Washington DC and 8 Boy Scout Jamborees at Ft AP Hill in Virginia. We worked on Multiple Sclerosis Bikethons and Walkathons and the Pope's visit to DC. This was done along with or regular school runs. Large events were our specialty and we had them every summer. The company was closed when my wife decided that she was moving to Ocean Pines in 2005.

General Information:

Having worked in all facets of management for almost 30 years, I thought getting a job at the beach would be easy, but with the economy declining rapidly, it became very difficult. Then with the events that took place, it looked as tho I was jumping jobs, which was not the case. Finally the yard care idea came along and I was stable again, only not making enough income.

My computer skills have increased, and I am healthy, just getting older. I have too much energy to just sit on the beach, like a lot of folks.

EDUCATION: Univ of Maryland 1956-63

BS Degree, Personnel Mgt

SERVICE: US Army 1959-1962 E-4

24th Infantry Division, Germany

Division G/4 Classified clerk (TS clearance)

MANAGEMENT ADGENDA:

Over the years, I have learned that a team effort will always achieve better results than an individual effort, along with the theory that a steady pace is always better than rushing and making mistakes. I believe that _”everybody should treat others like they want to be treated “is a good standard to live by. These have worked for me for many years.
