Certified mediator in family and divorce cases, workplace situations, civil court cases, and general conflict resolution. Using my experience in the Iowa Department of Corrections, I consult on matters involving safety and security, emergency preparedness, staffing analysis, mental health issues, and risk assessment for a variety of institutions and facilities. Training is offered for several subjects that include but not limited to: Training for Trainers Course, Leadership Training, Emergency Preparedness, Communications, Workplace Stress, Mental Health Issues.
I am certified as a Real Colors Instructor through National Curriculum and Training Institute, Colors is a adult personality training. It can be used to enhance communication between leaders and team members.
Correctional Supervisor II, Iowa State Penitentiary,
Fort Madison, Iowa January 2010 - April 2011 40-45 Hours per week
Supervisor of correctional officers and correctional supervisors. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Clinical Care Unit which house’s over 200 mentally ill offenders and a total security staff numbering over 75. Duties include but not limited to; staff evaluations, investigations, security rounds, and inspections. Other duties included placing work orders. making work schedules and assigning roster duties, enforcing policies and procedures, conducting in-service training. As Captain of the Clinical Care Unit, I also continued my role as the Institution Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
Assistant Associate Warden of Security, Iowa State Penitentiary
Fort Madison, Iowa December 2005 - January 2010 40-45 hours per week
Assisted the Associate Warden of Security in administering the security functions of the Iowa State Penitentiary. During the five year period, I oversaw several departments including the Armory, Key Control, Tool Supervisor, as well as Captains and Lieutenants. I was the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, ISP Security Audit Manager, ACA Manager, and member of both the State Security Audit Team and Vulnerability Assessment Team.
When the Clinical Care Administrator position was vacant, I assumed those duties for 15 months until the position could be filled. This unit housed over 200 mentally ill offenders including those with acute mental illness. This unit had several levels of care and treatment program needs. This was from August 2006 to October 2007.
The Associate Warden of Administration position became vacant in December of 2007 and I assumed those duties which included the Maintenance Department and Business Office staff. This was a multi-million dollar budget and had several major maintenance projects to be completed. I was in this temporary position from December 2007 until November 2008.
Training Specialist I Iowa State Penitentiary
Fort Madison, Iowa July 2002 - December 2005 40 hours per week
Interviewing, supervising, scheduling, and training of 550 staff members for annual training. Training was required to meet ISP, Iowa Department of Corrections, and American Correctional Association Standards. Responsible for annual training plan and a variety of training topics. List is available on request. Also a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team
Corrections Emergency Response Officer, Iowa State Penitentiary
Fort Madison, Iowa June 1996 - July 2002 40 hours per week
Conducting specialized training in escorting high-risk offenders, security checks of the institution and performing searches of all areas of the facility. Other duties included escorting to state and federal court, Iowa City hospital and out-of-state transport. Collecting, testing and training procedures involving drug screening.
Before taking this full-time position, I held the job of correctional officer beginning in November of 1993.
In 1990 after moving back to Iowa, I attended college and worked for the Hy-Vee Food Store until November of 1993.
