At this privately owned vet practice, my tasks includes basic office receptionist duties as well as keeping the clinic clean and organized. I am responsible for setting up appointments and taking messages for the doctor. This requires phone etiquette skills and a working knowledge of the services, products and prices of everything offered at the clinic. Cleaning kennels and cages is another important responsibility I have, as well as maintenance duties including mopping, wiping down cabinets, counters and sinks as well as sweeping floors and taking out the garbage. With regards to my veterinary skills I am responsible for sterilizing instruments and syringes in an autoclave. I assist the veterinarian in initiating fluid therapy, collect blood specimens, calculate and administer medications and set up and read fecal exams. I also clean surgical areas on the animal before surgery and restrain the patient during routine check ups or blood draws. I make arrangements for the pick up of specimens for analysis by a reference lab. I also bathe and dip animals, trim their toenails and exercise dogs by walking them outside. Periodically during the absence of the veterinarian I am responsible for routine operations and maintenance of the clinic. In his absence, I open and close the clinic by myself. My responsibilities include receptionist duties, dispensing medications, assisting customers with purchases as well as kennel and maintenance duties. These periods may be for a day or two to as long as a week. On my own I will come in during my off days to clean the kennels and walk dogs we are boarding. Other than this, my basic and most important concern are keeping the clinic clean inside and out, getting people to come in with their pets and tending to all the animals in the practice.

In addition, this job required me to help clean the store and place all merchandise that was out of place into its proper setting. Arranging the stock usually occurred when the store closed, however this task was also done during work shifts when there were few customers in the store and cahier duties were not needed. I also had to count my money before and after every shift. While employed here, I was exposed to hectic, busy work hours, which included being on my feet during my entire work shift. Working on weekends and holidays was also a necessity for this particular employment.

This job required me to approach visitors at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and offer to take their picture in expectation that those people will buy their picture as a souvenir later that day. I had a quota of taking 200 pictures every day. The amount and quality of pictures I took affected how I was paid each day. At times, I was sent to collect and count the money till in the morning for the Kodak stand where I worked. This job expected me to work all day outdoors and many times obliged myself to actually go into the pools in order to take superior pictures for visitors to buy. While working at this job I obviously gained experience working a digital camera and also obtained excellent people skills.

This was a seasonal job that required me to tend to customers and use a cash register. I had to work at hectic hours with sometimes-difficult customers. As the cashier, I was also responsible for handling returns. I also had to answer phone calls from customers calling in and asking questions. The use of an intercom system was required for this job as well. I also had to work shifts during closing times. This involved cleaning up each aisle with the help of the other employees. All of the merchandise had to be placed in the exact area it belonged in the store. This process would sometimes take as long as a couple of hours after store hours to finish. During closing hours, I also had the duty of cleaning my area, which included the whole front half of the store. Vacuuming the rugs in the entrance region and cleaning out the bathrooms thoroughly was mandatory for me when closing the store. Counting my money, which included cash, check and credit was essential for me after every shift.

My tasks included taking orders from customers at the concession stand. I had to make sure my work area was clean from germs at all times. When supplies in my work area were low, I had to go upstairs to acquire more. It was required of me to get just the right number of supplies for my station. I also had to count my money at the end of every shift and make sure I didn’t have more or less than I should have according to the work done on my cash register during my shift. At other times, I was given the duty as usher. This meant I had to clean the theaters after the shows were over and the customers had left. As usher, I was also responsible for sweeping the areas around the concession as well as the lobby areas and making sure the bathrooms. Sometimes, I was given the job of tearing the tickets when customers came in to see their movie. At other times, I was sent to the box office to give out the tickets to the paying consumers.

I used a microscope and identified parasites in them. I took temperatures, pulses and respiration rates from patients. I weighed the animals as well. I helped draw blood from patients. I observed dentals, euthanasias, spays, neuters, tumor extractions, radiological duties and many more. I worked primarily with cats and dogs.
