The New Teacher Center’s e-Mentoring for Student Success (eMSS) is a nationwide content-specific online mentoring program that supports the professional growth and development and increases the retention of new math, science [STEM], and special education teachers. As a mentor, I work with these new teachers to provide emotional and instructional support.

CTYOnline From home
CTYOnline is a program run by Johns Hopkins University that provides online courses for gifted students. In my role, I teach life science, earth science and physical science to a group of 40 students. The courses are self paced and delivered via Moodle and Plato. Student can complete the courses in anywhere from 3-6 months. Primary responsibilities of instructors include grading, feedback and academic support. The courses are written at the middle school level, but many of the students are elementary school age as it is a gifted program.

I facilitate online courses for educators on a variety of topics. As the course facilitator I monitor course discussion boards and ensure that all students remain on task and schedule. I complete weekly or bi-weekly feedback emails to each student and I assess a final project in each course.

The ILT program was a mentoring program for new teachers. In my first year with the program I mentored fifteen ILT’s in grades Pre-k through 12. I coordinated monthly meetings, completed classroom observations and provided both instructional and emotional support. In my second year, I had six instructional coaches working in each of the six county school buildings. My role was to support those coaches as they worked with the ILT’s. I continued to coordinate all meetings as administrator of the program.

I started as a math tutor with this company. I worked with one or two students at once from my home in an online environment. Later, I moved to a Prescription Monitor position. In this role, I ensured that the curriculum was right for each student and adjusted as needed.

I taught general science and math to eighth grade students. I taught on a block as well as traditional schedule and had approximately 20 students in each of 4 classes. The building itself was comprised of 300 children in grade six through eight. My students came from a rural area and most had a poor socioeconomic background.
