DRS Technologies, RSTA, Melbourne, Florida 2001 – 2012

Senior Data Analyst, Quality Systems, 2008 – 2012

Reporting to the Director of Quality Systems, managed the Integrated Business Management System (IBMS) which combined all operating procedures, policies, work instructions, and forms for both the Florida and Texas RSTA Divisions. In addition to this primary role:

• Coordinated the 2009 customer satisfaction survey which contributed to a successful ISO 9001 recertification audit in both 2009 and 2012.

• Coordinated the Florida IWT Grant Application for the implementation and training of employees for AS9100C. This grant provided funding for the training of ten Six Sigma Black Belts in 2012.

• Led two employee enrichment teams focused on continuous improvement. “Back to Basics” awarded both intrinsic and extrinsic recognition for operations improvements, and the “Employee Action Team” was established by senior leadership to give employees a representative voice to help improve two-way vertical communication.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, developed plant layouts on Visio, coordinated contractor schedules on MS Project, and collaborated with cross functional teams of engineers and managers on this two year project to expand the DRS facility by 157,000 square feet. Championed 6S program methodologies with multiple stakeholders throughout the RSTA Florida Division.

Operations Manager, Optical Fabrication, 2001 – 2008

Reporting to the Director of Operations, managed a two shift optical fabrication department that supported division revenues exceeding $400 million annually. Directed personnel development, training, team coaching, productivity metrics, production planning, process improvement, and overhead spending. In this role:

• Led a Six Sigma Green Belt project focused on IR lens processing to a CNC process which increased shop capacity by 87%. The success realized on this initiative justified the acquisition of more capital equipment to lessen the requirement for lens outsourcing.

• Full P&L responsibility for the fabrication departments and managed overhead budgets exceeding $1 million annually. Authorized all purchase requisitions, capital equipment requisitions, earned value metrics, and prepared basis of estimates for the department.

• Implemented doubled-sided processing for critical IR beam splitter components that increased throughput on this program by 46%.

• Supplied critical optical components that met quality specifications, within forecasted budgets, that were delivered on time. Programs served were military ground, air, and sea that are currently in theater around the world.

Litton Industries, Airtron, New Jersey/ North Carolina 1982 – 2001

Operations Manager, Optical Fabrication, 1996 – 2001

Reporting to the Director of Operations, managed a four department business unit with a staff of four supervisors, three process engineers, and fifty-eight direct labor technicians. Supported annual division revenues of $24 million and directed overhead budgets of $2 million in this role. Had full responsibility for personnel training and development, process innovation, production scheduling, and performance metrics. Drove continuous improvement in the following areas:

• Designed and built machinery to standardize the processing of laser crystal components utilizing copper/kemit composite materials to optimize cycle time. Improved productivity by 42% and reduced consumables and waste by 50% over previous methods.

• Coordinated an engineering polishing study that improved subsurface damage in the polishing of Nd: YAG laser rods. The results of this study became the basis of Litton’s strategy that earned the company a greater world market share for laser materials used in medical, industrial, and military applications.

Operations Supervisor, Optical Fabrication, 1982 – 2001

Reporting to the Operations Manager, led a two shift optical fabrication department with a staff of thirty-two technicians fabricating laser crystal components. Had responsibility for product quality, production planning, personnel training, team coaching, and process improvement. Several significant accomplishments in this role were:

• Implemented cellular manufacturing to replace the outdated assembly line process. The production yields improved to 98% and waste due to mishandling was drastically reduced.

• Designed and built a fabrication shop in Charlotte, North Carolina optimized for manual polishing operations and specific ergonometric requirements of the technicians. Each station was setup with the required microscopy and metrology to reduce inspection cycles required on each component which optimized technician productivity.

• Improved shop capacity by increasing productivity by 50%.

• Managed the transition of the Morris Plains, New Jersey shop to the new location in Charlotte without missing any scheduled deliveries. Blended the cultures of these two geographic regions seamlessly into one cohesive team focused on the company mission.
