-Education-

University of California Irvine; M.S., Mechanical Engineering, GPA: 3.31. June 2011.

University of California Santa Barbara; B.S., Chemical Engineering, GPA: 3.36. June 2007.

-Relevant Experience-

Spinofix/Onciomed. Irvine, CA May 2012 To Current

ENGINEERING INTERN

Area of Research: Surgical tools and spinal implant devices.

Develop 3D CAD concept models (parts and assemblies) of devices in Solidworks.

Learn about design control processes, federal medical device regulations, ISO 13485 standards, mechanical/materials testing standards for spinal implants (ASTM F1717), and Finite Element Analysis of devices performed in Abaqus.

One Earth Biofuels. Tustin, CA April 2012 To May 2012

PROCESS ENGINEERING INTERN

Area of Research: Profitable production of biodiesel from waste oil.

Researched new alternative fuel technologies to license and program interfaces in MS Visual Basic to control pumps.

Stamford Bioprocess Technologies. Santa Ana, CA May 2011 To August 2011

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Area of Research: Optimization of recombinant protein production from cell lines using Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology.

Worked with bioreactor controllers: calibrated sensors (pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen), configured PID control loop for stirrer and dissolved oxygen.

Worked with cell cultures: maintained cell concentrations, took readings of nutrient levels in cell media, froze and thawed cell banks from liquid nitrogen. Calculated compositions of solutions, formulated and filtered solutions for use in DOE experiments.

Madou Lab at UC Irvine. Irvine, CA January 2011 To May 2011

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Area of Research: Extended-life biosensor design using electroactive polymers.

Designed and conducted experiments on glucose sensors to optimize sensing precision.

CELLective Dx. Mountain View, CA December 2007 To January 2009

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Area of Research: CELLective Dx was a start-up focused on cancer diagnostic devices. Its technology platform was a blood-based sensor. The goal was the capture and analysis of circulating tumor cells using microfluidic devices coupled with immunoaffinity technologies.

Aided in testing new surface chemistry procedures that resulted in increased cell capture of the devices.

Executed experiments and analyzed data to optimize two chemistry-based QC tests (using PNPP ELISA assays and fluorescent markers) used to analyze biological active components of sensor (quantify the amount of antibodies on the devices); the quantification was analyzed using statistical methods and logistic fitting (Dose-response curves).

Wrote SOPs for the new chemistry procedures and QC tests.

Implemented new equipment: Optimized run conditions of a fluorescent scanner; optimized run conditions and wrote scripts for a fluid dispensing robot.

Aided in developing new process techniques and implementing new equipment that increased the chemistry uniformity and production of the devices. Within one year production increased from 6 to 48 devices per day.

Analyzed data and wrote reports for experiments used to optimize chemistry procedures, QC tests, and production. Experiments were developed using design of experiments (DOE) methodology and analyzed in Excel, Design Expert, and Minitab.

Mitragotri Lab at UC Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara, CA April 2006 To November 2006

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Area of Research: Drug delivery particle shape, and its effects on macrophage phagocytosis.

Maintained alveolar rat macrophage cells cultures, analyzed cell phagocytosis, attached IgG antibodies to drug delivery particles, and morphed polystyrene particles to various shapes and sizes.

Performed literature searches and developed experiments to optimize a procedure to insert fluorescent actin into cells using electroporation. The purpose of this was to gain new insight to the dynamics of cell phagacytosis on particles of various shapes.
