• Expertise in developing models and test setups from ground up for a wide range of electro-mechanical applications.

• Proficient in designing data acquisition/control applications using Labview.

• Proficient in using Matlab and Labview for image processing, data analysis and simulation.

• Proficient in writing embedded software using C and Assembly language for 68HC12 and 8051 microcontrollers.

Certification

CLAD (Certified Labview Associate Developer - Certification awarded by National Instruments)

TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES

Labview, C/C++, Embedded C (68HC12, 8051), MATLAB, Simulinks, ITI SimulationX and SolidWorks.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Engineering Intern July 2010 – Present

Intermountain Healthcare

• Developed software that acquires ECG and ABP data from a patient monitor using a National Instruments data acquisition system while parallely filtering the signal and finding the QRS peaks in the ECG data using an adaptive threshold algorithm and writing the data into a SQLite database.

• Developed an advanced interactive R-R wave artifact management software, which allows to user to,

o Remove incorrectly identified RR intervals and insert points manually after review.

o Interpolate for ectopic beats in the ECG signal.

o Exclude artifact affected regions.

• Developed additional software modules to do HRV analysis on the heart rate data.

Test Setup design for testing cerebral blood vessels October 2008 – June 2010

University of Utah

Designed a National Instruments based test setup which is used to perform controlled mechanical tests on human cerebral blood vessels and collect data about their mechanical properties. The following features were implemented.

• The test setup collects data from pressure transducers and load cells using a data acquisition system which is synchronized with a timer/counter module that reads data from 3 digital encoders, which then issues trigger to control a camera at certain data points to capture images synchronized with the data acquisition.

• Designed a feed-forward pressure control system and a temperature control system for the test setup.

• Used DLT (Direct Linear Transformation) calibration method to collect the real world 3D-Coordinates of the arteries under test (in order to measure the strain) from the images obtained from two cameras at oblique angles. (Matlab)

• Implemented Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method for markerless tracking of the samples by using polarized light to enhance the features. (Matlab)

Application Engineer (Automation) July 2007 - July 2008

Trident Tech Labs, India

My job responsibility was to model and simulate components and systems using physical modeling, machine design software, ITI SimulationX. I interacted with customers from several industries and research organizations to solve their problems related to modeling and simulation with this software.

External Consultant Dec 2006 - June 2007

Security Defense Systems, India

Developed conceptual mechanical design of a remotely operated compact all-terrain vehicle mounted with a five degree of freedom robotic manipulator in Solidworks.

Robotics Product Engineer July 2005 – November 2006

Appin Knowledge Solutions, India

Designed a 24 hour hands on training program and kit aimed at teaching fundamentals of robotics and embedded systems while building a black line following robot from scratch.

External Consultant March - June 2005

Sinsil International, India

Developed software for Automobile Research Association of India to measure the ultra-violet contents of halogen and gas discharge lamps used in headlamps of automobiles, using a S2000-ocean optics spectrometer.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Research Assistant October 2008 - Present

Head Injury Biomechanics Lab, University of Utah

Testing mechanical properties of branched human cerebral blood vessels to determine their susceptibility to axial stretch under the guidance of Dr. Ken Monson. My other responsibilities include development of the software for the test setup of the lab in Labview.

Research Assistant Aug 2004 - Feb 2005

Mechatronics lab, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India

While working under the guidance of Dr. S.K. Saha, I implemented path planning on a differentially driven wheeled mobile robot using feedback from odometric sensors.

PROJECTS

Design of a two wheel Balancing Robot, University of Utah January - April 2010

Designed two wheeled balancing robot using 68HC12 microcontroller, which automatically balances by adjusting its center of mass by moving its wheels in response to feedback from an accelerometer and a gyro angular rate sensor.

Simulation of Automatic Control of Wheeled Mobile Robots, IIT Bombay, India January - July 2003

Developed and tested various feedback control strategies for the automatic control of wheeled mobile robots to solve trajectory tracking and point-to-point tracking problems under guidance of Dr Kurien Issac.

Design and testing of Wheeled Mobile Robots, NIT Jalandhar, India Dec 2003 – July 2004

Designed the hardware of a wheeled mobile robot and tested various feedback controllers for the Automatic Control of the system. http://www.eng.utah.edu/~behera/reports/car_type_wmr.pdf

EDUCATION

• Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering)

University of Utah

• Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical Engineering) National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, India

CONFERENCE/PUBLICATION
