1998 Implemented a line side spare program for the blast furnace mechanical maintenance department; at that time there were very few ways to document and track parts and material usage to ensure that the correct amount of an item is available when needed and where that item may be stored. (So anyone may come in and request an item either by computer or spread sheet and could be able to locate that item.) This eventually reduced overall cost because items were not purchased with out the actual data reflecting a need to replenish as a line side spare. By setting a min-max limit we always kept track of the need and cost. And also, with the section – row- bin locations now established locating the item could be done by anyone.
