PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
DELPHI CORPORATION, Kokomo, IN 1990 to Present
Senior Engineer
Technical Manager
Project Lead / Manager
Achieved rapid promotions throughout tenure with this industry leader. Began Delphi career as Manufacturing Engineering Technician and quickly gained valuable engineering and management experience in manufacturing and product development.
• Leading large engineering teams for embedded microprocessor-based automotive products, collaborating with multi-discipline program teams to complete product design and manufacturing.
• Software engineering – led teams to develop major embedded / firmware projects. Ten years of experience in programming in Assembly C, C++, and scripting languages. Lead design teams in software design, documentation, peer reviews, implementation, and testing. Worked with microprocessors NEC V850/ES, Renasas, Texas Instruments O-Map, Motorola HC11 and HC12. Experience with configuration management tools such as Telelogics Synergy CM and Telelogics Synergy Change.
• Software project management – lead several embedded software / firmware projects in the automotive electronics industry. Planned the project schedule, led team meetings to ensure compliant with delivery schedules, led customer discussions on the status of software development and deliveries.
• Systems engineering – worked to define product requirements, define deficiencies, and track problems between specifications and performance in the product. Used Telelogic DOORS to define requirements and establish traceability.
• Electrical engineering – I have a EE undergraduate. I have applied my electrical knowledge for 10 years in manufacturing while working on equipment. In manufacturing test, I successfully analyzed circuits and set up in-circuit and functional testing. I designed and implemented custom test equipment which was installed in Kokomo, Mexico, and China. In my 10 years in software, I have worked very closely with electrical engineers to help design circuits and microprocessor layouts. We worked very closely to resolve any technical electrical issues as I designed and coded the embedded software.
• Advanced level of proficiency on In-Circuit-Emulators, debuggers, and compiler suite tools.
• Ability to design and architect complicated software modules and projects using industry design tools such as Enterprise Architect, Visio, and C++ OOA tools.
• Maintain electrical engineering fundamentals enabling me to understand electrical design centered around 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit embedded microprocessors.
• Worked successfully with multiple international teams in the technical development locations in Germany, China, Mexico, and India. Integrated the international teams into the domestic teams to ensure the teams were operating with unified direction and goals. Traveled abroad to these locations to ensure product development success.
• Have repeatedly worked with manufacturing to ensure the product is successful manufacturability and testability.
• Mastered the Common Software Process of SEI’s CMM (Capability Maturity Model), CMMi, and Europe’s SPICE common process for Systems and Software processes.
• Dedicated to process implementation and adherence as it pertains to Systems and Software engineering development of complicated embedded systems.
• Mastered the AGILE software project management methodologies. These techniques allow breakdown of the work into manageable smaller duration tasks and allows the customer to see progress earlier in the product development cycle. It also allows the engineering manager to react to deviations from schedule to allow the team to get back on track before total project timing is jeopardized.
• Expert at interpreting customer specifications and turning them into software and systems design requirement documents. Proficient at using Telelogic DOORS for requirements analysis and traceability.
• Very well versed with software configuration management processes and tools. This mastery includes both individual software module and final software releases. Proficient with Telelogic Synergy for Configuration Management (CM) and Change tracking (Change).
• Successfully coordinated projects with program managers and technical competencies to complete projects on-time and within budget.
• Led the integration of new tools and business applications, acting as the change agent by writing work instructions, training fellow engineering staff members.
• Set requirements of supplier for product development tools suppliers as engineering manager and a member of a product development tools steering team member.
• Managed the allocation of engineering resources across several teams. Mastered the understanding of shifting human and physical resources between projects in order to successfully complete parallel development of simultaneous development projects.
• Revitalized a product engineering group with staff and deadline problems through setting realistic group targets and goals, giving engineers the tools and coaching to conduct jobs effectively. Group morale and productivity drastically increased, and the engineers began routinely meeting project goals and deadlines.
• Documented product’s design process for a large business unit to follow.
• Managed budget approximately $10 million of engineering expenses, capital equipment and technical tools.
