LAW OFFICES OF MAURICE GRAHAM

Oakland Park, FL 33334
January, 1994-Febrruary, 2000 and July, 2000-November, 2002 ( I returned to position with raise in pay.)
Position: Legal Assistant
Duties: Mr. Graham is a sole practitioner with a one-secretary office and his own practice. As his law firm grew, I took on more and more responsibilities. His work encompasses the fields of criminal, personal injury, domestic relations, real estate, litigation, probate and corporate law. I worked not only in The Court of Common Pleas, but also Federal Court within the realm of six different courthouses, and approximately 100 judges and judicial assistants, keeping in heavy contact with them at all times. My work involved very heavy computer skills and very strong client contact. I answered all phones, drafted all pleadings, prepared briefs, summaries and arguments for court.; performed receptionist duties, first client consultations, inter-office memorandums, and handled all caseloads from beginning to end; the filing of complaints, receipt of answers, interrogatories, discovery, and investigation of same, up to ADR or trial in most cases, Deadlines were crucial to be met at all times. I set up and performed all client filing, communicating with clients on a weekly basis, had constant contact with judicial assistants, and the courts; sent hearing notices regarding depositions,, mediations and arbitration. Along with my other duties, I drafted all pleadings for approval by Mr. Graham;, typed all subpoenas for service and had them served by processor or sheriff to complete service. In my position, I entered all dates and times on a computerized calendar and Mr. Graham’s calendar book. On a daily basis, I kept case law, exhibits, witnesses, correspondence, discovery, pleadings and billing organized.
In my employment for Mr. Graham, I gathered all costs; sent all client billings; handled payroll, A/R, A/P, office expenses, supplies. In my capacity regarding personal injury cases, I drafted proposals for Mr. Graham’s approval, to insurance companies; very heavy contact with insurance adjusters. Preparing settlement packages, computing settlement sheets, and disbursing checks from the firm’s trust account. This position required the highest of multitasking skills, excellent computer knowledge and a large amount of organization and interpersonal skills, along with heavy client contact.
Working under very little supervision in an often hectic office where the atmosphere was unusually busy seemed to be my best skill, and working under this type of pressure, I saw that I did my best work!,
