Mr. Matthew Briggs BA (Hons) Curriculum Vitae
Personal Statement
As from a young age, my lifelong dream has always been to become a teacher. It has been my passion to instill education in the minds of today's youth. After several years of studying English Literature at university, I have made the move to work as an ESL tutor and teaching assistant in an inner-city Leeds primary school. This has been a successful venture; emboldening young learners with a range of communicative, kinaesthetic and multi-sensory methods. From my experiences I feel that each student has an individual learning style, and as a teacher, I feel that personalising learning to cater for these styles is very important. I have already benefited from teaching using visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning (VAK). My aim as a highly driven teaching assistant is to pass on my own expertise and create an atmosphere in which students are encouraged to develop a passion for the subject and learn effectively. This has given me the chance to empower them, creating opportunities to organise themselves, and for them to investigate and explore their own learning.

Employment
Harehills Primary School, Teaching Assistant May 2010- to present
As a teaching assistant, I correspond with teachers to develop targets and next steps for all children. I understand the importance of differentiation to ensure progress and attainment. I use IEP’s to deliver tailored planning, with 1:1 time and Literacy booster groups showing evidence of personalised targets for children.
Private tutor, Fleet Tutors May 2010- to present
In my role as a private tutor of English, I provide a tailored programme of tuition for each student which starts by completing a ITP (Initial Teacher Plan) with the student during the first session in order to define the lesson objectives and learning outcomes over the agreed period. In addition, I would plan a medium term scheme of work which highlights what learning skills are being taught across a period of 12 weeks.
Cover Supervisor, P&K Education. April 2010- May 2010 Woodkirk School, English department
In this role I liaise with the head of English to discuss teaching materials and attainment levels of pupils. This job involves covering English lessons to both ability set and mixed ability classes to children aged 11-16. Other responsibilities involved following safety procedures, demonstrating awareness of child protection when needed, and following the whole school ethos on behaviour management.
Retail Assistant, Morrisons September 2009-December 2009
I worked in a larger than average team, my job involved analysing stock levels and ensure full availability, whilst also solving problems with levels of waste. Maintaining a positive attitude to work to all task was the main focus of my role.
Cover Supervisor, Reed/ ITN Mark. March 2009- September 2009 Morley high school and Lawnswood academy
In these two roles as a cover supervisor, I have covered lessons provided by the teacher. I discuss I.E.P (individual educational plans) and I.B.P (Individual behaviour plans) with the teacher to prepare effectively for each class. Also I provide detailed feedback to the teacher or the heads of departments to set appropriate targets and learning goals.
