THE OPEN UNIVERSITY – Milton Keynes, UK 2006-2009

Media Relations Manager for the largest University in the UK, with over 250,000 students:-

• Devised and controlled over 50 publicity campaigns from pre-planning through execution to evaluation for Open University produced TV, radio and online programs that broadcasted on the BBC and Discovery Networks

• Seconded for six months to be Head Writer of Platform (www.open.ac.uk/platform), a new social-media based website – created and commissioned features and content, produced podcasts, interviews, columns, blogs, photographs and forums for the site

• Produced Platform’s coverage of the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election including writing/moderating a live blog that was viewed by over 5000 readers worldwide on election night

• Implemented numerous media campaigns to promote new courses and achieve publicity for the University; including the launch of OU’s presence on iTunes U

• Planned and executed three annual Graduate Publicity campaigns; publicizing the achievements of 15,000 graduates to national, local and specialist media. Each campaign achieved over 200 positive articles on OU graduates.

Press Officer for the UK’s largest broadcaster

• Acted as spokesperson responding promptly and accurately to numerous worldwide media inquiries regarding programming, corporate positions, future plans, ongoing initiatives, opinions and historical queries

• Produced and executed publicity strategy for the first year of the BBC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Unit including its launch and its first major conference
